Mission and objectives

UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Conflict (UN Action) is a network of 25 UN entities, united with the goal of ending sexual violence during and in the wake of armed conflict. Working as one UN, the UN Action aims to: prevent conflict-related sexual violence, enhance accountability, meet the needs of survivors of sexual violence.

Context

This assignment will help the OSRSG-SVC, through UN Action, to explore how the international community, primarily the UN, can better engage in the digital sphere to prevent and respond to CRSV. This research and analysis will support advocacy as well as knowledge building under SDGs 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

Task description

This online volunteer will support the UN Action Network, through the UN Action Secretariat, in researching and progressing its understanding of the risks that increasing digitalisation brings to those vulnerable to CRSV. We anticipate two research documents, each of approximately 5-10 pages long, possibly this may include one summary brief. The main task is the elaboration of UN Action’s understanding on the following topics through an intersectional lens: i) the impact of digital gender-based hate speech on the perpetuation of CRSV; and ii) bridging the gender digital divide, including through leveraging innovative technologies, to prevent CRSV and support survivors and those vulnerable to CRSV in seeking services. This will be conducted through research, analytical writing, and data collection and analysis. Through this work, the online volunteer will also help identify opportunities for including this nexus in the Network’s wider work. Kindly note that the research is anticipated to be be desk based only.
