Civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are some of AIIB’s key stakeholders. The Communications Department (COM) coordinates AIIB’s engagements with CSOs and NGOs and conducts outreach activities.

The Senior Civil Society Coordinator will play a leadership role in driving the implementation of policies, strategies and initiatives related to civil society engagement. This position involves managing relationships with key stakeholders, identifying opportunities for collaboration and ensuring meaningful involvement of civil society in AIIB projects and initiatives, and overseeing the delivery of high-quality service. This position will report to the Communications Department.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of AIIB’s civil society engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and contributing to major outcomes.
  • Provide expert guidance and support on civil society policy matters as it relates to the operations of AIIB, contributing to the development and refinement of organizational approaches.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance transparency and accountability within AIIB’s operations, fostering trust and collaboration with civil society stakeholders.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with civil society leaders and organizations, serving as key liaison between AIIB and external stakeholders. This involves facilitating the exchange of information, joint organization of briefings, special events, consultations and other collaborative activities.
  • Represent AIIB in meetings and events within the civil society discipline, advocating for the organizations’ objectives and priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership with civil society entities, fostering dialogue and meaningful engagement.
  • Establish transparent procedures, guidelines and mechanisms for civil society engagement within AIIB, ensuring clarity and accessibility for internal stakeholders and civil society actors, especially those from AIIB’s low-income member countries.
  • Collect, organize, and report on information. Gather, organize, review, and report on information, views, and reports produced by CSO other development-related stakeholders on matters relevant to AIIB's operations, policies and strategies including its engagement with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and other global development agendas. Assist in disseminating timely information to civil society organizations about accreditation and registration requirements and procedures for participation in AIIB-related events, including but not limited to the Annual Meeting Management Civil Society Dialogue.
  • Review and monitor AIIB's relationship with civil society. Conduct periodic reviews and monitoring of AIIB's interactions and engagement with civil society, making recommendations for improvements as needed.
  • Prepare public information materials. Work closely with AIIB Communications Department Develop to develop public information materials including statements, talking points, briefing materials, as needed for engagements with civil society organizations.
  • Stay informed about sustainable development issues. Maintain awareness of current sustainable development-related issues, including policy, gender considerations, and other developments in the specified subject areas.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in international studies, Development Studies, or a related field from a reputable academic institution with seven years of relevant professional experience; OR
  • University degree in the above fields with ten years of relevant professional experience.
  • At least 8-10 years of demonstrated experience in working with civil society, preferably in collaboration with multilateral development banks/international agencies and governments.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in policy development and research.
  • Familiarity with AIIB's four thematic focus areas: green infrastructure, private capital mobilization, technology-enabled infrastructure, and climate finance is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in strategic planning.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues to diverse audiences.
  • Capacity to anticipate and mitigate issues is an asset.
  • Previous experience in organizing seminars/events in collaboration with NGO partners is advantageous.
  • Fluency in English is required.
