With immediate effect, our Public Health Department is looking for a; 

 
Public Health Specialist Advisor - Nutrition (100%) 
  (Amsterdam preferred, however, candidates from all countries with MSF offices will be considered, and the local salary grid will apply) 

 
Job Brief 

In this role, you provide strategic and technical support in our program countries focused on nutrition, collaborating closely with various stakeholders such as Health Program Managers, E-desk, nurses, pediatricians and Medical Coordinators. Your responsibilities include advising on program strategy based on relevant data and information, providing technical guidance on malnutrition prevention and treatment, and monitoring nutrition security in selected countries. Also, you stay informed on developments in Food security/Nutrition through contact with external stakeholders like WFP, UNICEF, ACF. Also, you participate in training activities and contribute to the organization's overall functioning by providing expert insights and supporting the implementation of strategic plans.

 

 

Responsibilities and activities 

  • Support missions and projects in nutrition domain strategically and technically. 

  • Advise on program strategy collaborating with relevant staff and based on analysis of relevant data and information. 

  • Provide technical advice on malnutrition prevention and treatment, enhancing quality of care. 

  • Collaborate closely with field staff, pediatricians, nurses, and other relevant personnel, like Operations, Emergency desk and context specialists. 

  • Monitor nutrition and food security in selected countries, flagging potential needs to stakeholders. 

  • Participate as Facilitator–Trainer in sectional and international MSF courses. 

  • Determine training needs and develop relevant modules. 

  • Contribute expert nutrition insights and support implementation of strategic plans within OCA.  

  • Stay updated on latest developments and research in the nutritional field. 

  • Implement operational policies and contribute to their continuous improvement. 

  • Enhance guidelines, protocols, and training tools to support the expert pool. 

  • Develop and implement policies, protocols, and guidelines in the operational context. 

  • Offer recommendations for procuring medical goods/services and diagnostics. 

  • Conduct quality management and assessments to monitor changes in planned strategy and programming. 

 
Candidate Profile 

Requirements: 

  • Seeking health professionals with an academic background and a postgraduate degree or relevant experience in Nutrition, such as Nutritionists, Nurses, Medical Doctors, or Public Health specialists. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of field experience in nutrition programs in developing countries with MSF, humanitarian agencies, or NGOs, with experience in emergency response being advantageous. 

  • Proficiency in English is required, while knowledge of additional languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, or Portuguese is beneficial. 

  • Desired skills include experience in planning, implementing, analyzing, and disseminating nutritional assessments and evaluations, 

  • Familiarity with nutrition security networks 

  • Proficiency in tools such as Excel, ENA for SMART surveys, and NutVal. 

  • Available for two to three-week field visits approximately four times a year, including participation in MSF international meetings and training. 

  • Competencies: communication, results/quality orientation, stress management/resilience 
     

We offer  

When based in The Netherlands: 

  •  An employment contract for one year with the option for renewal for 40 hours a week based on satisfactory performance; 

  •  A gross monthly salary between €4,596 and €6,327 a month depending on relevant work experience, based on a fulltime appointment;
