OHCHR JOR organization mission TBD

Context

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) embarked on a project titled "Open Air Museum - Street Art Trail for Human Rights" in the Hashmi Al Shamali neighborhood of East Amman. This project, under the Human Rights 75 initiative, aims to utilize the transformative power of street art to increase community resilience, foster dialogue, and provide economic opportunities in an area that faces socio-economic challenges. Supported by the United Nations in Jordan, local artist, and together with other partners, 17 murals, the sketches of which were approved by Greater Amman Municipality in November, are now painted in the Al Hashmi Al Shamali neighborhood. Additionally, as part of this initiative, the RCO in Jordan will establish a dedicated website for the murals project. This website will serve as a platform to provide more information about human rights, including the significance of the UDHR. It will also showcase the murals created under the project, allowing visitors to explore the artwork and learn about the stories and messages behind each piece. Through this online platform, the RCO aims to further amplify the impact of the "Open Air Museum - Street Art Trail for Human Rights" project and promote dialogue and awareness on human rights issues within the community and beyond.
