Description

EGNOS Data Dissemination Segment (DDS) Engineer in the Development and AIVQ Section, EGNOS and SBAS Division, Galileo and EGNOS Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.

EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) is the European region satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS). It improves the performance of GPS, enabling its use for safety-of-life navigation applications. A new version, EGNOS V3, is under development to provide augmentation of Galileo and the latest generations of GPS constellations.

You will be responsible for coordinating and leading the activities of the EGNOS and SBAS Division associated with the dissemination of EGNOS data.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

 

  • monitoring and managing the industrial activities in the areas of specifications, design, development and validation for the EGNOS Data Dissemination Segment (DDS) at hardware and software level for the different projects of the Division, either for civil aviation or other user communities (maritime, railways, UAVs, etc.).
  • supporting the deployment activities of EGNOS DDS stations.
  • supporting the Division team in the software development, qualification, safety and AIV domains in your area of expertise. 
  • contributing to the execution of EGNOS demonstrators/testbeds, leading the activities associated with the dissemination of EGNOS data.
  • actively contributing to R&D, proposing future solutions to disseminate EGNOS data (such as GEO, MEO, IGSO and land-based solutions).
  • developing and maintaining the DDS evolution roadmap.
  • technically leading DDS procurement activities.
  • following up the industrial activities to specify, procure and develop satellite payloads to broadcast the EGNOS signal in space.

Technical competencies

Proven experience in the field of GNSS signal generation and RF stations.
Knowledge and experience in the field of satellite payloads for GNSS systems.
Knowledge of large-scale complex ground and space system architecture including performance, design, interfaces and protocols.
Experience in mission and system requirements analysis, system design, development, implementation technical follow-up, acceptance and qualification reviews.
Experience in managing and monitoring industrial contractors and conducting industrial reviews.
Experience in procurement processes and contract management as well as applied negotiation skills.

Education

A master’s in physics, telecommunications or electronic engineering is required for this post.

Additional requirements

You should have at least four years of proven experience in the domain of GNSS signal generation and dissemination.

Experience in safety-critical software and real-time software development and verification would be a clear advantage.

Experience in GNSS SoL applications for non-civil aviation user communities would be an advantage.

Knowledge of the civil aviation domain with respect to SBAS systems (mission, organisation, standards, etc.) would be an asset.

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills. You should be able to work autonomously, effectively, and cooperatively in a diverse, international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines.

You should also have good analytical, organisational and synthetic reporting skills, as well as a proactive attitude to solving problems.

You are willing to travel and you thrive in a demanding international environment.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
