Role or Purpose of Position

The Associate Director – Strategic Alliances Consultant will play a key role in creating and managing strategic external relationships, with a focus on government; ensuring compliance; and contributing to the strategic direction of Vitamin Angels in India.

The Associate Director – Strategic Alliances Consultant will serve as a senior member of VA’s Programs team in India, the main purpose of this role is to create and manage strategic relationships, with particular focus on creating government relationships, fostering other key partnerships, and acting as VA’s spokesperson. This person will also provide support to the Director of Programs, India, ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness in the India programs team, and identify specific projects to advance growth and impact of VA’s programs in India.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Initiate and drive strategic partnerships with key stakeholders: national and state governments and key institutions in the area of public health nutrition, positioning Vitamin Angels in India as a lead nutrition player in India.
  2. Liaise with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Women and Child Development in designing evidence-based nutrition programs that promote health and economic equity across the lifespan and are aligned to VA’s strategic and operational plans in India.
  3. Strengthen key assets and relationships for VA in India – particularly program partners in government and private sector, and the field staff, and provide strategic inputs to the senior leadership.
  4. Support the Director of Programs to develop and implement strategic plans that align with the goals and objectives of Vitamin Angels in India.
  5. Review processes across the programs, development, and marketing teams to ensure smooth and efficient workflow towards better operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  6. In partnership with the Associate Director, support development and implementation of a scope-of-work review system for the programs operations team, including a mid and end-term review tool.
  7. Provide coordination and collaboration between programs, development, and communications teams facilitating an integrated approach to growing VA’s operations in India.
  8. Engage in fundraising conversations and ascertaining the wider team engagement as needed.
  9. Facilitate multisectoral policy dialogues between various agencies, institutions, and government to increase coverage of evidence-based nutrition interventions. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • At least 15 years of demonstrated experience leading multi-cultural teams, developing strategies and programs in public health nutrition. The right candidate for this job will be of a growth mindset, drive impact, and be an effective leader.
  • Partnerships and Influence - Demonstrated ability to work with government officials (essential), stakeholders, health actors, civil society, and other networks in the area of public health nutrition.
  • Policy and Advocacy – Demonstrated skills in public health nutrition, especially the MIYCN program and policy landscape, and advocacy.
  • Strategic and opportunistic – able to spot and act-on appropriate opportunities.
  • Communication – strong and clear communication to offer voice and representation to VA Programs in India, as much as communicating internally.
  • Leadership – as an empowering team leader, coach, and mentor.

Highly desirable:

  • Experience working with national and state governments; NITI Aayog; international organizations like WHO and UNICEF; civil societies; academia; bilateral and multilateral donors; reputed public health organisations.
