Tetra Tech International Development (International Development Jobs - Tetra Tech), is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Conflict Advisor position for the FEWS NET 8 (Famine Early Warning Systems Network) Decision Support Contract. This position will be based in Arlington, Virginia. Hybrid and remote options are available.

Position Description/Summary: FEWS NET is dedicated to delivering early warning of hazards, food insecurity, vulnerability, and famine to the US Government, USAID, national governments, and various regional, international, and non-governmental organizations. FEWS NET 8 will continue the critical work that FEWS NET has delivered for over 30 years, emphasizing global coverage and innovation in food security monitoring and assessment. Managed from a headquarters office in Washington D.C., FEWS NET 8 will extend its reach beyond traditional geographical limitations, providing decision support services for over 30 presence countries and global early warning of food security and humanitarian crises.

The Conflict Advisor is the project’s focal point for understanding and addressing the complex interplay between conflict and food security. By analyzing conflicts, developing mitigation strategies, and liaising with key partners, they ensure that food security interventions are conflict-sensitive and contribute to peacebuilding efforts. In summary, the FEWS NET Conflict Advisor bridges the gap between conflict dynamics and food security, ensuring a comprehensive understanding and effective response to acute food insecurity in conflict-affected regions.

Responsibilities:

* Analyze conflict trends and impacts on global, regional, national, and local food security.

* Collaborate with FEWS NET and partner analysts to develop conflict scenarios and assess their implications on food security and food crises.

* Developed in-depth analysis and decision support products to enable USAID and partners to better address the implications of conflicts on food security and humanitarian assistance.

* Coordinate with humanitarian agencies for aligned response.

* Collaborate with partners and team members to improve the integration of conflict data sources (e.g., ACLED and University of Uppsala) into decision support activities.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

* Minimum graduate degree in a relevant field; specific degree requirements may vary by position.

* At least 5 years of relevant experience; specifics may vary by position.

* Experience with early warning analysis and food security programs.

* Familiarity with USAID's operations, programs, policies, and procedures.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Fluency in English; proficiency in French or Spanish is a plus.

* Current U.S. work authorization is required at the time of application.
