Overview of position

CTG is looking to contract an experienced Broadcast Studio Technician for our operations in South Sudan.

Role objectives

Within delegated authority, the Broadcast Studio Technician will be responsible for performing the following duties:

  • Oversees & operates a diverse range of audio production equipment, including broadcast & production consoles, Digital Audio Workstations (DAW), computer assisted radio automation systems (RCS systems) & other studio equipment as required to enable the successful production & transmission of the United Nations (UN) radio program.

  • Records, mixes & edits interviews, features, discussions & other program materials such as public service announcements & station imaging.

  • Performs audio file format conversations for uploading to the internet.

  • Works with radio producers to determine, advise & achieve the desired effects for production & record, synchronize, mix or reproduce audio content for live transmissions, performance or pre recorded events.

  • Establishes & execute procedures for the operation & troubleshooting of studio & broadcast production facilities & equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with booking, scheduling & security policies of the radio broadcast & production studios.

  • Installs, operates & maintains a diverse range of broadcast technology equipment, including, broadcast consoles & other studio equipment, computer assisted radio automation systems, tools & software.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Project reporting

This role reports to the line manager.

Key competencies
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required or a technical or vocational certificate in broadcast technology, telecommunications engineering or a related field required.

  • Fluency in spoken & written English is required.

  • Excellent hands on studio technician & problem solving skills, good knowledge of relevant broadcast technology policies, structure & strategy as it relates to area of assignment, proven analytical skills, ability to adapt & be innovative as new technology challenges arise.

  • Outstanding knowledge of the operating characteristics of a wide range of media & broadcast equipment used in all aspects of communications and public information, familiarity with current trends & developments in radio, internet & AoIP technologies.

  • Shows pride in work & in achievements, demonstrates professional competence & mastery of subject matter, is conscientious & efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines & achieving results, is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns, shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges, remains calm in stressful situations.

  • Keeps abreast of available technology, understands applicability & limitation of technology to the work of the office, actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks, shows willingness to learn new technology such as AoIP.

Experience in the following key systems & technologies:

  • RCS Broadcast software & Gselector.

  • Studer, Wheatstone Wheatnet, Telos Axia.

  • Comrex family of Audio-over-IP codecs – Bric Link, Access NX Portable, Access Multi-Rack.

  • Telos Vx Engine talk show phone systems.

  • Adobe Audition editing software.

  • Familiar with Dante, AES-67, SMPTE 2110-30 Digital audio protocols.

This role has no team management responsibility.
