Background

UN Women Burundi's Strategic Note 2024-2027 aligns with UN Women's Global Strategic Plan 2022-2025, the National Development Plan 2018-2027 reinforced by the National Program for the Capitalization of Peace, Social Stability and the Promotion of Economic Growth (PNCP 2021-2027), the National Gender Policy (NGP) 2012-2025 and UNSC Resolution 1325, UNSDCF (2023-2027) and the United Nations Resilience Framework. It captures the triple mandate of UN WOMEN (Normative, Coordination and Programmatic) aimed at supporting government and partners to achieve lasting results for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, building on its comparative advantages.

Reporting to the Program Management Specialist, the Project Coordination Analyst supports the coordination of the European Union-funded funded project " Creation and operationalization of the National Observatory for endinf Sexual and Gender-Based Violence/Strengthening national mechanisms to end SGBV in Burundi " including coordinating relations with national partners and stakeholders, monitoring and reporting

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide support to Project Management:

  •  Gather inputs and coordinate the preparation of annual project work plans and corresponding sub-plans (procurement plans, quarterly plans and other plans as required);
  • Ensure rapid, high-quality implementation of work plan activities.
  • Monitor progress against the approved work plans
  • Propose necessary solutions/actions to address changes in the external environment.
  • Mobilize goods and services, including drafting terms of reference and technical specifications, and supervise all contractors' work.
  • Manage requests for financial resources from the office.
  • Monitor financial resources and accounting to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial reporting.
  • Prepare budget revisions as required.
  • Monitor the project implementation with the UN Women program associate and UN Women finance staff.
  • Provide regular progress updates to supervisors and submit progress reports and donor reports.

2. Guide coordination with national partners and other key stakeholders:

  • Coordinate relations with national partners to support the implementation and expansion of the project, raise potential problems and propose solutions.
  • Identify capacity-building needs and support partners through technical assistance, mentoring, training, and capacity-building initiatives as required.

3. Coordinate project monitoring and reporting:

  • Gather and compile all the information needed to monitor and report on the project from planning to evaluation.
  • Support the design, implementation of a monitoring-evaluation system based on the results-based management framework in collaboration with M&E.
  • Maintain a mechanism for monitoring indicators and interactive data fed by the project's implementing partners.
  • Organize planning workshops and training sessions on the monitoring and evaluation system.
  • Contribute to annual and periodic reports and coordinate the submission of financial and narrative reports by implementing partners, in addition, contribute to the mid-term review.
  • Develop mechnaisms for sharing and disseminating best practices and disseminating project/program information to all partners.
  • Produce a quarterly dashboard of the main monitoring indicators (results of activities, effects, impacts, etc.) for projects.
  • Provide information on EVAWG/HR program activities and results to country office reports.

4. Build partnerships and support the development of resource mobilization strategies:

  • Contribute to the development of partnership and resource mobilization strategies for the EVAWG/HR program.

5. Promote and facilitate knowledge management, as well as project-related communication and visibility:

  • Document project implementation processes and result achievements.
  • Contribute to information exchange and the development of internal and external knowledge products.
  • Coordinate the organization of major awareness campaigns, events, training, workshops, and knowledge products implemented directly by the Country Office.

6. In collaboration with the communication unit, ensure the visibility of EU support and project results.The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and qualifications:

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in law, human rights, gender, management, social sciences or other related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A project/programme management certification would be an added advantage

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience respectively at national level and international level in managing complex, multi-component interventions with national partners, preferably in a thematic area.
  • Experience in coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating SGBV programs and projects is desirable.

Language requirements

  • Fluency in French and English is required.
  • Knowledge of Kirundi is desirable.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
