OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is UNESCO’s first education-related category 1 institute in the Asia and the Pacific region towards the development and promotion of new approaches to education for a more peaceful and sustainable world. The Institute is a globally regarded centre of excellence for research and implementation of socio-emotional learning (SEL) through innovative digital pedagogies empowered by Artificial Intelligence.

 

Under the overall authority of the Director and direct supervision of the National Information Technology Officer (NITO) of the Institute, the incumbent will serve as “Associate National Project Officer (AI-in-Education researcher)”.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of the AI-in-Education researcher are targeted around conducting AI-in-Education (AIED) research on FramerSpace. The list of duties includes:

 (1) AI Integration Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for integrating artificial intelligence into the educational framework of FramerSpace.
  • Identify areas where AI can enhance learning outcomes and user experience.

 

(2) Educational Data Mining

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of educational data generated by FramerSpace, leveraging AI techniques to derive insights into learner behavior, engagement, and performance.

 

(3) Personalized Learning Algorithms

  • Research, design, and implement personalized learning algorithms that adapt to individual learner needs, providing customized educational experiences.

 

(4) Content Recommendation Systems

  • Implement AI-driven content recommendation systems to suggest relevant learning materials, activities, and assessments based on individual learner profiles and preferences.

 (5) Intelligent Tutoring Systems

  • Investigate and implement intelligent tutoring systems within FramerSpace, leveraging AI to provide real-time guidance and support to learners.

 

(6) Collaboration with Educational Researchers

  • Collaborate with UX Researcher, educational researchers and social emotional learning researchers within UNESCO MGIEP and outside to assess the impact of AI interventions on pedagogical methodologies and learning outcomes.

 

(7) Ethical AI on FramerSpace

  • Ensure that AI integration on FramerSpace adheres to the ethical guidelines proposed by UNESCO MGIEP and the community worldwide ensuring fair, unbiased, and transparent AI practices.

 

(8) Continuous Improvement

  • Implement mechanisms for continuous improvement of AI algorithms through feedback loops, iteration, and adaptation based on user interactions and educational outcomes.

(9) AI Literacy Initiatives

  • Contribute to the development of educational content and initiatives that enhance AI literacy among learners and educators using FramerSpace.

 

(10) Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Establish metrics and indicators to monitor the effectiveness of AI-in-Education initiatives.
  • Regularly evaluate the impact of AI on learner performance, engagement, and satisfaction.

 

(11) Documentation, Reporting and Publication

  • Document and publish AI methodologies, implementation processes, and research findings.

 

(12) Any other related task as assigned by the supervisor/ Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education Qualification:

  • Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in education, educational technology, AI in Education, or a related discipline.

 

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in working with domains such as AI-in-Education, Educational Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, or Learning Analytics.
  • Demonstrable experience in authoring journal papers.

Position-Related Skills and Competencies:

  • Artificial Intelligent Algorithms design and integration
  • Educational Technology research design and administration
  • Quantitative and multimodal data analytics-based research methodologies
  • Experience with applying theories from cognitive science and learning science in designing AI based technology to enhance learning experiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to multi-task, deal with ambiguity, and cope with rapidly changing and pressurized circumstances

 

Languages: 

Very good knowledge (written and spoken) of English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Ph.D. in education, educational technology, AI in Education, Educational Data Mining, or related discipline.

Work Experience

  • Professional experience within an educational or EdTech institution/industry, and experience working in a multidisciplinary team will be an asset.

 Languages

  • Working knowledge of other UNESCO Official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Russian) will be an asset.
BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits, which may include, if applicable: 30 days annual leave, reimbursement of medical insurance (up to 5% of base salary), pension plan (up to 10% of base salary), etc. The annual base salary of NOB R1 is INR 1,751,502 (Negotiable).
