Mission and objectives

Morobe Development Foundation Inc. is a leading Internationally recognised NGO based in Lae Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea who has the vision to help young people reach their full potential by utilizing their hidden talents in community development initiatives so they can realize their potential and become a role model in the community. MDF was established to address a broader and more diverse range of objectives and work through the use of dance, music and drama, MDF’s primary aim is to ensure that women participate equally in decision making in any project undertaken, including projects related to Ending Violence against Women, and promoting Human Rights with a aim to support the Government and UN their Development Goals. MDF, in collaboration with Online Volunteers engaged through the UNV's Unified Volunteer Platform (UVP), has also undertaken various scientific research studies related to the environment - forest cover loss, land use land cover change, the influence of various parameters on surface waters, and coastal shoreline turtle habitat loss. These projects included the participation of various experts and researchers from diverse fields across various countries across the globe - ranging from marine biology, biodiversity conservation, PNG community management, remote sensing, and land use policy among various others. MDF is managed by a management committee, which is made up of the Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, Secretary, the Treasurer, the Project Coordinator, Community Development Officer, and a male and female member of the foundation, and ensures that women participate equally in decision making. We at MDF assert that we have the required skill sets, knowledge, established international network, and the necessary foundational work to undertake projects successfully.

Context

In recent years, MDF has been actively engaged in environmental conservation initiatives throughout Papua New Guinea (PNG), with a particular focus on the Waria Valley Conservation Project. This project aims to preserve the rich biodiversity of the rainforest ecosystem in Waria Valley, located in Morobe Province. To amplify the project's impact and raise awareness about environmental conservation and climate change issues in PNG, MDF is embarking on a multimedia campaign. As part of this campaign, MDF plans to produce three 2-minute promotional videos, each highlighting different aspects of the Waria Valley Conservation Project. The first video will focus on the ecological significance of the rainforest in Waria Valley, showcasing its diverse flora and fauna. This video will emphasize the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect this unique ecosystem. The second video will delve into the socioeconomic benefits of the conservation project for local communities living in and around Waria Valley. It will highlight how sustainable conservation practices can improve livelihoods and support community development. The third video will underscore the project's contribution to global sustainability goals, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land. It will demonstrate how the Waria Valley Conservation Project aligns with international efforts to preserve terrestrial ecosystems and halt biodiversity loss. To ensure the success of this multimedia campaign, MDF is seeking three Online Volunteers, each tasked with producing one of the 2-minute promotional videos. Volunteers will be provided with project materials, including footage from the conservation site, background information on the project, and guidance from MDF's designated contact person. Online Volunteer tasks include scriptwriting, video editing, and review/finalization. Each volunteer will work independently on their assigned video, with opportunities for collaboration and feedback throughout the production process. Upon completion, the three promotional videos will be integrated into MDF's outreach efforts, and disseminated through various channels to raise awareness and garner support for the Waria Valley Conservation Project and broader environmental conservation initiatives in PNG.
