Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the coordinator of the Population and Development Area, the consultant will carry out the following activities: 1. Contributes to technical studies on population trends, population policies and their relations to social and economic factors, taking into account the human rights perspective. 2. Conducts population studies and research applying prospective analysis techniques and methods. 3. Researches, compiles and organizes information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, meetings / conferences, etc. 4. Provides support to intergovernmental bodies, such as the Regional Conference on Population and Development and the Regional Intergovernmental Conference on Ageing and the Rights of Older Persons of ECLAC. This activity includes preparing reports or inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies, attending meetings, preparing summary reports on meetings, assisting in the organization of panels or round tables. 5. Assists in the organization of expert group meetings, seminars, etc. on population-related issues. 6. Attends international, regional, or national meetings on population and development issues. 7. Provides technical support to technical cooperation projects in the area of population and development, such as the project to " Impact of ageing on the economic sectors driving sustainable growth. Analysis and exchange of experiences on public policies that enhance the contributions of older persons," to be carried out in the framework of the Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Korea and the ECLAC; and the Project "Inclusive and sustainable economic growth in a society for all ages in the post-COVID-19 era in Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean," financed by the United Nations Development Account and carried out together with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). 8. Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit's services and participating in staff meetings.
Qualifications/special skills
An advanced university degree (Master's or Doctorate degree or equivalent) in economics, demography, statistics, sociology, or related area is required. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in analysis and research is required. Prior experience working on topics related to the interrelation between population and development is desirable. Experience systematizing and analyzing statistical data is desirable. Experience working with population and development indicators is desirable. Knowledge in the application of research in the field of economic and sociodemographic analysis, population aging and public policies is desirable. Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) are required. • Quality of products/activities • Due application of knowledge • Timely delivery of results • Responsibility and critical and adequate incorporation of suggestions and/or comments made by Population Division teams
Languages
Fluency in English is required; and fluency of Spanish is desirable.
