Context

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women’s China Office in Beijing supports and carries out work on (i) enhancing women's economic empowerment (WEE); (ii) ending violence against women (EVAW); (iii) innovative work to address gender issues in China (QWFIS);(iv) contributing to gender equality and women’s empowerment in China (CGF) and (v) using media to promote gender equality (Communication). In addition to the above, UN Women also actively participates and contributes to various UN inter-agency processes and collaborates with UN organizations around specific programme areas. The online volunteer will support the Partnerships team and is expected to deliver a timely, quality, and results-oriented approach in order to support the partnerships and resource mobilization efforts of the UN Women China Office – including the engagement of WEPs signatories in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in China and globally.

Task description

The Online Volunteer will be asked to support the office’s partnerships and resource mobilization efforts in three main ways: 1) perform a variety of quantitative and qualitative research and analytical activities to examine the progress and efforts of WEPs signatories in China; 2) synthesize these findings and analyses into visual outputs (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, etc.); and (3)provide targeted support to the team to engage and convene select WEPs signatories. While the Online Volunteer will fully support virtually, the volunteer is expected to be online for 16-20 hours per week during regular business hours and able to commit to 10-12 weeks for this role. The volunteer will communicate and exchange information with the team over e-mail, Teams and other channels. The volunteer will also be expected to lead and/or participate in virtual team meetings and report to the Public and Private Sector Partnership Specialist.
