Mission and objectives

UNHCR's primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. In its efforts to achieve this objective, UNHCR strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, and to return home voluntarily.

Context

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on 14 December 1950 by the UN General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country (www.unhcr.org).

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Senior Protection Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Data Management Assistant will: • Provide a full spectrum of information regarding IDPs profiling. • Design, develop or improve existing tools to identify IDPs. • Under the orientations of the Senior Protection Officer work closely with other colleagues to determine if after registration of the population it will be possible to conduct protection monitoring activities, reintegration, evaluation of areas of return, dwelling evaluation or basic households’ services evaluation. • Work closely with others humanitarian agency and UNCHR partners on this category of person regarding: - Demography. - Information on population movements. - Socio-economic and land information. - The needs and potential durable solutions. • With the orientations of the Senior Protection Officer, analyze data and suggest the type of assistance and the mean to assist. • In close collaboration with the Assistant Information Management, manage the protection monitoring system and other activities related to the protection monitoring. • Perform related duties required by his/her supervisor.
