Mission and objectives

The World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. WHO seeks to promote health, ensure everyone can attain the highest level of health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable through partnerships, people and countries.

Context

WHO began when our Constitution came into force on 7 April 1948 - a date we now celebrate every year as World Health Day. We are now more than 7000 people from more than 150 countries working in 150 country offices, in 6 regional offices, and at our headquarters in Geneva WHO works worldwide to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. Our goal is to ensure that a billion more people have universal health coverage, to protect a billion more people from health emergencies, and provide a further billion people with better health and well­ being. EMRO Staff Health and wellbeing unit aims to maintain and promote the physical and mental health of staff all over the region, for all country offices and to provide a comprehensive medical service in addition to psychosocial support and care, the unit also arranges medical evacuation, health promotion activities, awareness campaigns and psychosocial support and mental health services. Also, hospital referrals, follow-up of hospitalized cases, coordination with other WHO medical offices in other regions, and incautious collaboration with HQ/SHW and national health resources.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Regional Staff Physician or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Medical Team Assistant will: • Perform nursing part of periodic medical examinations for cases assigned to her by RSP, including revision of received investigations, communication with concerned staff for missing documents and pre mission briefings, and preparing the cases for RSP revision and medical clearance. • Share nursing tasks related to staff requirements and First Aid service provision in clinic. • Assist in the administrative task of medical examinations. Prepare files, record, create new medical files if necessary and retrieve files to insert incoming correspondence and transmit to physicians. • Assist in maintaining effective medical filing systems regarding individual staff hard copy files and completion of required technical documentation on the electronic system. • Receive telephone calls with tact and discretion; make appointments; provide administrative information. assist in arranging lab appointments for staff members on a once-weekly basis. Manage Regional staff physician schedule and take appointments and respond to their queries and redirect them to the appropriate personnel or services. • Perform any other work related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. - Results/expected outputs:- • As an active [WHO] team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to [World Health Organization] and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • The incumbent will ensure the smooth flow of work as related to administrative activities, coordinating actions with other support staff in the team. • Timely deliverable of task • Commitment to working responsibility and activities. • Adherent to the confidentiality of all staff medical information and their dependents. • Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated, and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
