Duties and Responsibilities
As an established global knowledge brokerage, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is a global community of policy, business, and finance professionals and organisations committed to collaboratively generating, managing, and sharing knowledge on the transition to an inclusive green and circular economy. The GGKP is led by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank. The mission of GGKP is to empower government decision makers, companies and financial institutions with evidence-based knowledge that can best support them to contribute effectively to the green and circular economy transition. GGKP provides its best practice knowledge brokerage services through its three core platforms, the Green Policy Platform, the Green Industry Platform, and the Green Finance Platform, as well as its online interactive community space, the Green Forum. In addition to its three platforms and the Green Forum, GGKP also provides targeted knowledge management, communication and stakeholder engagement services for global projects funded under the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The core focuses of GGKP as a knowledge brokerage are: ● Using world-class knowledge management, communication and application systems and tools to provide practitioners, policymakers, and other experts with opportunities to access, share, and apply green and circular economy policy analysis, guidance, information, and data. ● Identifying major knowledge gaps in green and circular economy theory and practice and addressing these gaps by promoting collaboration and coordinated research. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) programme, “Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management (FARM) is a new GEF funded programme that aims to strengthen the sound management of agricultural chemicals and their waste, through better control, and reduction and / or elimination. To achieve this aim, the overall objective of the FARM programme is to generate a framework of knowledge and tools for financing sustainable agriculture practices, and that will address incentivising financing through adjustments to key policies, regulations, standards, norms, and market innovations. The FARM programme is being implemented by UNEP with GGKP as an executing agency for the Global Child Project. There are seven Child Projects within the programme in three regions, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, for which the executing agencies are UNEP/Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Africa Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNIDO. The role of the FARM Global Child Project is to coordinate the efforts of the child projects, promote knowledge generation and sharing, and lead engagement with international stakeholders. A consultant is sought to support the GGKP in the execution of the FARM Global Child Project, and specifically to lead the development, implementation and monitoring of knowledge management and research activities. Purpose and Scope of Assignment The specific tasks related to this assignment will be under the supervision of the FARM project manager and in coordination with the GGKP knowledge management team, and will include: a) Knowledge Management • Lead the implementation of FARM knowledge management strategy • Set up and launch the FARM knowledge management system, including developing relevant guidelines, organising existing and new knowledge products, and providing relevant training to child projects • Develop and maintain a repository of FARM related knowledge resources, including relevant information from FARM Child Projects, research papers, reports, and case studies, in conjunction with the GGKP central knowledge repository • Monitor knowledge resources from FARM Child Projects, related GEF projects, and other key projects on agrochemicals and agri-plastics to identify resources that can add value to FARM knowledge repository • Lead coordination of knowledge management focal points within the FARM Child Projects, including implementation and management of a dedicated thematic working group • Develop and implement the knowledge and research activities under the guidance of FARM biennial forums, PSC meetings, PAG meetings, including supporting the disseminate relevant knowledge products b) Research Activities for FARM • Gather latest trends and information on sustainable agriculture, sustainable finance, pesticides, plastics, and other relevant topics from industry-wide sources • Analyse and curate knowledge products from both FARM Child Projects and other stakeholders relevant to FARM topics • Analyse knowledge needs from FARM Child Projects and develop proposals for relevant knowledge product generation • Support the development and implementation of thematic webinars and trainings based on identified knowledge needs and gaps • Coordinate the development of knowledge products including technical materials, guidance, toolkits, case studies, best practices, briefs and lessons learned and follow up with subcontractors, experts, and practitioners to ensure delivery • Support the preparation and dissemination of FARM-specific outreach and communications material with research and knowledge related input c) Knowledge Community Engagement • Identify areas of interest and themes to engage stakeholders for discussions within the FARM Communities of Practice, hosted on the Green Forum • Facilitate knowledge related discussions and exchange within the FARM Communities of Practice, including sharing and highlighting new publications, case studies, key findings and recommendations related to agrochemicals and agri-plastics • Engage in discussions within the SAICM Community of Practice on HHPs and make linkages to discussions within the FARM Communities of Practice
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced University degree (master's or equivalent) in sustainable development, knowledge management, communications or area closely related to the role is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of knowledge management and research analysis is required. Experience of working on topics related to / sustainable development, , sustainable finance and/or sustainable agriculture is required Experience of working on specific topics related to agri-chemicals and/or plastics would be an advantage Knowledge and experience of research series, newsletters, and publications would be an advantage Excellent written and verbal English proficiency is required, in addition to the ability to independently generate clear and concise content. Very good Microsoft Office skills are required. Proven ability to work in a multitasking environment. Experience of working in an international and intergovernmental organization.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised excellent written and verbal English proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
