Mission and objectives

The primary and overarching objective of United Nations Development Programme in Kosovo is the eradication of poverty in the context of sustainable development, including the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, and promotion of United Nations fundamental principles. The core dimension in our approach is investing in human development, wealth creation (with emphasis on issues such as entrepreneurship, job creation) and institutional reform and capacity development.

Context

Strengthening Information Integrity in Kosovo through Youth Empowerment The project’s focus is to support joint knowledge and This project aims to address the issue of misinformation and disinformation in Kosovo by empowering young women and men activists, and youth and women’s organizations with necessary skills and tools to collect data, raise awareness and expose false information, including digital content targeting girls and women. Given the impact of mis/disinformation on long-standing tensions and legacy of conflict, the project will also engage young people as agents of change in building positive peace and contributing to social cohesion and governance and promoting overall information integrity. Through the development and promotion of digital tools/measures that detect and counter false information, we will empower and support youth and women's organizations as influencers in tackling the negative effects of mis/disinformation, including gendered mis/disinformation, hate speech, community divisions, and gender inequality. Task description

Under the direct supervision of the UNDP Project Manager, the UN Community Volunteer will: • Undergo training on hate speech, mis/disinformation and relevant on job training media addressing hate speech. • Participate in editorial meetings of the respective media where they will be placed • Be part of the team of the media/media organizations to develop content against hate speech and/or for the promotion of positive narrative; • Research and identify the narrative of the expression of hatred through social media towards individuals or groups; • In cooperation with the project, the Journalism Department of the Faculty of Philology and respective media editors, the young journalists will conceptualise and develop at least once a month an authorial journalistic content that addresses the positive, divisive narrative and hate speech; • Record and report on activities and best practices to the project team • Assist to awareness raising and information sharing on projects results targeting local communities.
