Mission and objectives

UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. We help countries develop strong policies, skills, partnerships and institutions so they can sustain their progress. UNDP RBEC works with 18 country offices in Europe and Central Asia.

Context

As part of the UNDP RBEC team, the AltFinLab pioneers new ways to finance sustainable development and supports country offices in exploring new approaches to financing the SDGs. It implements the NGO Empowerment Programme for Poverty Reduction, Tadamon, funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development. Tadamon builds a thriving online community of CSOs from 57 OIC MCs, connecting them with partners, donors, and investors to collaborate and finance projects. Additionally, the AltFinLab provides capacity building and explores opportunities on emerging tools like crowdfunding and blockchain to address development challenges.

Task description

Online volunteers will join an innovative and dynamic team that prioritizes using alternative finance tools and emerging technologies to address development challenges in 57 OIC MCs. They will support activities that equip civil society with the necessary knowledge and skills. Their work will span two main activities: communication and research. The communication aspect will include direct engagement with civil society and outreach, including social media engagement, press releases, reporting, and newsletters, while the research will involve mapping out civil society organizations in 57 OIC MCs, as well as the crowdfunding ecosystem and blockchain initiatives. The results will enhance existing research and map out the civil society organizations that AltFinLab engages with through its programmes, with a focus on the Gulf region and Africa. Thus, it is advantageous for candidates to reside in the Gulf Area or African countries that are part of the OIC.
