Mission and objectives

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. UN-Habitat is the coordinating agency within the United Nations System for human settlement activities and in collaboration with governments is responsible for promoting and consolidating collaboration with all partners, including local authorities, private and non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular, Goal 11 of “Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”, as well as the task manager of the human settlements chapter of Agenda 21 and focal point for the monitoring, evaluation and implementation of the New Urban Agenda adopted during the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III),held in Quito, Ecuador, in 2016.

Context

This position is located in the Communications and Media Section located in ERSKI at the Nairobi duty station. The Communications and Media Section communicates UN-Habitat’s key messages to stakeholders and partners, creates awareness on urban issues and promotes UN-Habitat’s work and knowledge globally. The post aligns with the broader strategy to make UN-Habitat’s digital platforms more functional, user-friendly, and visually appealing; re-organize advocacy and technical content to raise the profile of UN-Habitat's work; give visibility to countries and global programmes, as well as support timely web updates for theExecutive Board and CPR sessions.

Task description

Under the supervision of the Chief of Communication and with the guidance of the Communications Officer and Information Network Officer, the candidate will perform the following duties: · Organize digital assets, including photos, videos, stories, and publications, for quick access and retrieval. · Maintain an updated digital asset management system, implementing best practices for file naming, classification, metadata tagging, and searchability. · Work with creative teams to optimize assets for different channels and platforms, ensuring high quality and resolution while meeting file size and format constraints. · Maintain asset version control, tracking changes and updates to avoid discrepancies. · Collaborate with IT and information management teams to expand and improve UN-Habitat's digital asset management platform. · Assist with posting content and checking keyword accuracy on digital platforms such as webpages, and social media platforms. · Compile high quality recent photos from all regional offices. · Work closely with communication teams and other relevant units to coordinate the use of digital assets in various communication channels and platforms. · Provide support in identifying and preparing assets for communication campaigns or events. · Regularly examine digital assets for compliance with UN-Habitat branding guidelines. · Collaborate with content creators to improve the quality and appropriateness of digital assets. · Track digital asset inventory, usage, and permissions. · Train staff to use the digital asset management system effectively and follow branding requirements. · Assist colleagues in optimizing the use of digital assets in communication efforts. · Any other task as required by the supervisor
