Mission and objectives

Youth Co:Lab positions young people front and center in order to solve the region’s most pressing challenges. Co-created in 2017 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Citi Foundation, Youth Co:Lab aims to establish a common agenda for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to empower and invest in youth so that they can accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Context

The theme for International Youth Day 2024 is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development”, highlights the key connection between digitalization and accelerating the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the crucial contributions of young people in this transformative process. The Skill Our Future initiative, jointly led by UNDP and other partners, aims to create digital pathways and reduce digital inequality for youth, particularly those from underserved communities across Asia-Pacific. In doing so, the programme seeks to support young people’s employability and enable them to thrive as leaders and globally engaged citizens and contribute to sustainable development in their communities and beyond. Access the platform here: https://www.skillourfuture.org/learn. To celebrate the International Youth Day 2024, Skill Our Future will run the second batch of social media campaign #SkillUpRiseUp to raise awareness and visibility on the importance of 21st-century skills (digital skills, soft skills, employability, and SDGs awareness) across Asia-Pacific, encourage youth communities to develop their skills and address the SDGs, and highlight the potential of youth to upskill themselves for a better future. To that end, Skill Our Future intends to collaborate with Online Volunteers with expertise in digital campaigns to support the UNDP youth team in highlighting the key connection between digitalization and accelerating SDG progress, emphasizing the pivotal role of young people in this transformative process, and celebrating young leaders digitally upskilling themselves for a better world.
