Overview
The Reaching Impact, Saturation, and Epidemic Control (RISE) project is a multi-year global project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) working with countries to achieve a shared vision of attaining and maintaining epidemic control, with stronger local partners capable of managing and achieving results through sustainable, self-reliant, and resilient health systems. RISE South Africa is hiring several positions to fulfill the project mandate. The Knowledge Management (KM) Advisor role is a donor funded position and is available on a full-time fixed term basis (till end September 2025) with the possibility of extension. Under the direction of the Technical Director, the KM Advisor will support program knowledge management activities which include contributing to the knowledge management plan, annual work plans, knowledge gathering, dissemination, documentation, and capacity building.
The Knowledge Management Advisor Position is a Full Time Fixed-Term role ending on 30 September 2025 and may be renewable subject to funding availability and ongoing needs of the organisation. The position will operate from the Jhpiego South Africa Office in Pretoria.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an overarching KM plan, annual KM workplans, and documentation and dissemination plans.
- Support the ongoing gathering of knowledge and learning developed by the program, including lessons learned, best practices, challenges, how-to information, and information on reach and impact.
- Identify key audiences for different types of technical information, including internal and external audiences, and target knowledge-sharing efforts to promote knowledge uptake and application.
- Support Jhpiego’s knowledge-sharing efforts by organizing and uploading resources to OneJhpiego, sending relevant resources to headquarters (HQ) for sharing among global staff, and developing systems for in-country knowledge-sharing practices.
- Support the documentation, packaging, storing, and sharing of information in formats tailored to specific audiences, including briefs, case studies, journal articles, online posts, success stories, presentations, and videos.
- Support dissemination of information through channels that will ensure effective audience reach.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing meetings; teleconferences; learning visits between sites, districts, regions, or countries; and other knowledge-sharing mechanisms to ensure learning among government staff, implementing partners, donors, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), communities, and other stakeholders.
- Build capacity among Jhpiego staff for sharing knowledge, leading knowledge-sharing activities, documenting and disseminating key knowledge to relevant audiences, and other KM practices.
- Coordinate with other Jhpiego communications, technical, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) staff to ensure coordination of knowledge-sharing, communications, documentation, and dissemination efforts.
- Coordinate with KM staff at HQ, who can support the implementation of country-level activities and efforts to share knowledge with global audiences.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Organizational Learning, Knowledge Management, Social Sciences, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation.
- 6 to 7 years of progressively responsible and directly relevant experience designing and implementing KM or learning strategies and actions for a global health and development organization.
- Experience providing technical support to advance KM in multiple components of the KM cycle: knowledge capture, curation, synthesis, dissemination, storage, and use.
- Demonstrated competence in concepts and issues in KM processes and organizational learning approaches.
- Experience providing KM and learning technical support across multiple implementation levels (project, program, department, organization).
- Experience supporting KM and learning systems to improve access to, use, and re-use of knowledge assets.
- Experience collaborating with national, regional, and global stakeholders in learning and KM-related activities including knowledge exchange, knowledge stewardship, reflection and adaptation, and knowledge translation and use.
- Experience supporting capacity building approaches and measurement best practices to advance KM and continuous learning.
- Experience applying effective KM and learning practices to global public health challenges and priorities.
- Experience applying digital tools and technologies to in-person and/or virtual meetings, events, convenings, etc.
- Demonstrated analytical, organizational and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish and sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with all levels of staff, donors, host-country counterparts and representatives from other key stakeholders.
- Aware of and sensitive to working in multiple socio-economic settings and with multicultural groups in a developing country environment.
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
- Ability to work independently and possess excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in an environment of changing deadlines and priorities.
- Comfortable with a team approach to programming and the ability to manage several major activities simultaneously.
- Strong decision-making skills and results-oriented approach.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, technical writing and ability to communicate effectively, instilling trust and confidence including presentation skills.
- Oral and written fluency in English and any additional South African official language.
- Awareness of and proficiency in using participatory digital tools.
- Experience working with USAID and other US-based donors.
- Experience designing and implementing quality control, monitoring, and evaluation of KM or related fields of work.
- Experience with web development, SharePoint, and/or using customer relationship management software.
- Ability to travel independently internationally, particularly to low-resource contexts.
