Overview of position

The Regional Program Division is responsible for consolidating and enhancing the linkages between UN Habitat's activities in the field with the Strategic Plan, the 2030 Agenda, and the UN-Habitat’s overall future priorities and to make sure that they are appropriate to the country context.

UN-Habitat’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific manages UN-Habitat’s project portfolio in the Asia and Pacific region. It ensures that country priorities are in alignment with the UN-Habitat’s organizational policies and strategic objectives and brings through its Regional Representative to the attention of the Executive Management Committee (EMC) opportunities and challenges in the region, allowing for timely feedback and responses to urgent demands and requests from the Member States.

Reporting Relationships

The  GIS Assistant will report directly to the Provincial Team Leader under the overall supervision of the National Program Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate GIS mapping and spatial data-base management report to the Project Manager and provide with the following specific duties and responsibilities:

    ·Develop geo-databases and produce hardcopy outputs to support the dissemination of findings to stakeholders

    ·Develop map layouts (cartography), including standardized color schemes and standard templates for high quality hard copy output;

    ·Support the use of satellite images for data collection and analysis (e.g. population)

·Lead the selection and acquisition of satellite images;

·Assist in field data collection using GPS and other data-gathering tools.

·Conduct quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) checks on spatial data.

·Digitize the land & property from high resolution satellite images with accuracy.

·Operate SQL Server and PostgreSQL database to store property registration data.

·Synchronization of property registration information from android application to external database

·Support the capacity development of partners in GIS

  • The GIS Officer will provide timely and professional production of thematic maps (e.g. land use, density, etc.) and Accurate GIS mapping and spatial data-base management report to the Project Manager and provide with the following specific duties and responsibilities:


Qualifications & Experience

·A High School certificate with 3 years of relevant work experience bachelor’s degree with 3 years of relevant work experience is preferred.

·Experience with GPS technology and spatial data collection techniques.

·Strong computer skills, including knowledge of databases, spreadsheet software, and remote sensing.

·Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

·At least 3 years’ experience of working with community organizations in implementing development projects at the local level is required.

·Proficiency in the use of computer packages and internet for project work and communication, GIS skills is required.

·Knowledge and experience of the concept, formulation and role of LICs and community-based Organizations s is highly desired.
