OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
I. Context and background
The UNESCO Office for the Gulf States & Yemen seeks a consultant to support the communication and visibility of the office and AlUla project in Riyadh, KSA. Under the overall authority of the Director for Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) based in UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, France, and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the consultant shall provide his/her communication expertise to raise visibility for UNESCO’s partnership with the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) and assist in the implementation of the Global Communications Strategy and Guidelines to contribute to the three fundamental objectives of the Division for Communications: Inform, Inspire and Engage the public. The Individual specialist will act as a communication and visibility officer, producing high-quality content on the UNESCO ALULA partnership, in closer coordination with the Doha Office and Headquarters. The individual specialist is on the frontline of all communication efforts, outreach, and advocacy within the framework of multisectoral projects that the Organization is implementing in AlUla, KSA. Liaising regularly with the UNESCO Division for Communications and Public Engagement and the Communication and Project Officers in UNESCO’s Sectors and Doha Office.
The consultancy is for 3 months (possibly renewable).
II. Tasks
The Individual Specialist will develop communications content for the web, social media, and the press, notably by:
- Liaising regularly with the UNESCO Division for Communications and Public Engagement and the Communication and Project Officers in UNESCO’s relevant project teams.
- Contributing to maintaining and updating AlUla’s webpage and social media accounts (Twitter/Facebook and Instagram) and monitoring monthly the results of the visibility activities within the partnership.
- Preparing news articles, stories, and social media content about the UNESCO‐RCU partnership, results, and activities of UNESCO-RCU-funded projects.
- Developing and designing specific media content and promotional campaigns, in collaboration with Programme sectors at UNESCO Headquarters and CPE. In particular, the 2 Individual Specialists will create communication materials.
- Translating communications materials in Arabic.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in journalism, communication, digital communications, and related fields.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in communications and project management.
- Proven experience in planning, organizing and coordinating social media teams.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Excellent writing and editorial skills.
- Proficiency with video and photo editing tools.
- Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of social media trends.
- Advanced knowledge of internet, social media, SEO and web analytics technologies.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.

- Excellent project management skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

LANGUAGES
