Mission and objectives
The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development.
ESCWA's objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries.
ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory.
ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Context
The IT Assistant (Physical Security Systems Expert) will be responsible for the design, configuration, and maintenance of the physical security systems at the UN House in Beirut, Lebanon.
Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Associate Information System Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:
1. Develop design concepts, specifications and provide subject matter expertise for Physical Access Control, Video Surveillance and Analytics, Perimeter Intrusion Detection, and other physical security protection systems.
2. Assist in the implementation of all Physical Security System projects, policies, and procedures within their area of responsibility.
3. Take hands-on lead in developing, installing, implementing, and managing integrated security solutions.
4. Resolve complex system issues related to physical security systems and infrastructure.
5. Troubleshoot system performance issues and implement corrective actions.
6. Perform preventive maintenance actions including system back-ups, error log reviews, database size and integrity checks.
7. Evaluate and recommend commercial (COTS) applications and products.
8. Conduct research and post-installation testing and analysis of systems.
9. Provides physical security recommendations to meet and maintain compliance with organization and industry security standards.
10. Provide computer, peripheral, and software support for systems and devices associated with the Access Control and Video Surveillance Systems.
11. Actively monitor systems and troubleshoot system errors and malfunctions.
12. Undertake technical meetings with Safety and Security Section to gather data for preparation of project and operation activities.
13. Coordinate & manages vendor relationships within their area of responsibility to ensure all service level agreements are met.
14. Respond to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety/security and system concerns.
15. Train end-users on security system operation and other system support personnel.
16. Prepare cost estimates for procurement and installation of physical security systems.
17. Prepare, maintain and update electronic inventories of security hardware, software, product documentation and project drawings.
