FUNCTION:    Under the overal guidance of the Civilian Personnel Manager and direct supervision of the Library Manager, the Library Supervisor operates the Force Library in North Camp (NC) and provides library support services to MFO personnel and visitors. Performs professional, clerical, and technical duties as directed and has defined latitude for independent action and decisions commensurate with demonstrated ability. The Library Supervisor directly supervises four full time library technicians.

 Key Functions and Responsibilities:

 1. Administration:

  •  Supervise daily operations of the NC Library, including staff management and task delegation.
  • Prepare and distribute information to NC personnel as required.
  • Review and compile monthly financial and statistical reports from Library Technicians and forward them to the Library Manager.
  • Manage the collection of sales monies (fine, coffee, etc.) and ensure proper transfer to the Library Manager.
  • Coordinate the transfer of library materials between MFO Libraries.
  • Maintain and manage library equipment and building maintenance needs.
  • Prepare weekly schedules, track time sheets, and ensure compliance with library policies and procedures.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and evaluating NC Library staff.
  • Represent the library at events and briefings as directed by the Library Manager.
  • Host and administer library programs, including book discussions and recreational programs.
  • Ensure MFO Force Protection procedures are adhered to during emergencies and drills.

 2. Circulation Services and Collection Management:

  •  Oversee circulation desk operations and assist patrons as needed.
  • Maintain and update patron records and assist with library database maintenance.
  • Enforce MFO Library procedures for managing delinquent accounts and remote site accounts.
  • Assist in maintaining the library collection by withdrawing outdated or damaged materials and overseeing the processing of weeded items.
  • Handle customers’ hold and reserve requests, and manage material displays.
  • Create bibliographies and shelf lists when necessary.

 3. Technical Services:

  •  Edit and maintain MARC records for the NC Library collection.
  • Oversee the processing and cataloging of new library materials and ensure their proper placement on shelves or displays.
  • Assist in the maintenance of electronic resource records.
  • Direct the repair and restoration of damaged library materials.

 Position Requirements

 Qualifications and Experience:

Four-year university degree in library science or a related field. Minimum 3 years related experience in a supervisory or leadership role. Demonstrated competency and extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of Library service including current library automation systems.

 Skills:

  • Strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic knowledge of Western literature and culture.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office Suite, online public access catalogs, online searching, and library databases.
  • Familiarity with copy cataloging using AACR2R and MARC record format.
  • Ability to edit MARC records is a definite asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of library circulation systems, collection management, and technical services.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and manage a library team.

 Languages:

Fluent spoken and written English. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
