Mission and objectives
WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that was established in July 1946 and whose objective is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. WHO’s primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system. WHO’s main areas of work are health systems; health through the life-course; noncommunicable and communicable diseases; preparedness, surveillance and response; and corporate services.
Context
The WHO Country Office in Azerbaijan (WCO AZE) is actively engaging in strengthening the health workforce and evidence-informed health policy to support the country's health system. WCO AZE works to enhance the health workforce capacity through Health Labor Market Analysis (HLMA) for policy actions, modernizing health professions education, and professional development initiatives. By facilitating stakeholder engagement and data-driven decision-making, WCO AZE promotes evidence-informed health policies, integrating research findings and best practices into national health strategies. Through its broad reach and collaboration with government institutions, international partners, and academic networks, WCO AZE continues supporting Governmental Partners in shaping resilient and responsive health systems in Azerbaijan through several programs and activities and seeks a national research assistant to contribute to them.
Task description
The research assistant is expected to fulfill the following tasks under the supervision of the Health Policy Advisor (Universal Health Coverage Partnership) in WHO Azerbaijan:
A. Research and Data Collection
• Conduct desktop research and literature reviews on health, policy, and investment-related topics pertaining to the health workforce.
• Manage and maintain research and HLMA databases and resources for easy access and reference.
• Assist in organizing dialogues, workshops, and consultation meetings to disseminate evidence.
B. Meeting and Event Organization
• Support partnership development by maintaining a database of key stakeholder contacts, including government entities, UN agencies, NGOs, and research organizations.
• Arrange and coordinate online and face-to-face meetings, trainings, round tables, and conference logistics.
• Participate in meetings, training sessions, and UHC planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
• Take meeting notes, prepare meeting minutes, and draft technical process reports.
C. Technical and Administrative Support
• Draft official documents, including event programs, official letters, visa support letters, invitation letters, etc.
• Assist in organizing WHO missions and field visits, supporting data collection and follow-up activities.
D. Translation and Editing
• Provide translation and editing support for medical and technical documents, presentations, and training materials in English and Azerbaijani.
• Ensure accuracy and consistency of medical terminology in translated documents.
E. Reporting and Documentation
• Assist in preparing event-related documents, including concept notes, event summary reports, and briefing notes.
• Archive and maintain research documents, reports, and correspondence for future reference.
