Architect to the MSB Field staff roster
Introduction
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) recruits committed and skilled experts for our humanitarian, resilience and peace support operations worldwide on a daily basis. We have great experience on working together and strengthening other organisations for example the UN and the EU in crisis, conflicts or other disasters.
MSB is opening our roster for Architects interested in working with us on humanitarian operations. When registered on the MSB roster you will continuously receive interesting international job opportunities and invitations to stimulating and valuable trainings and exercises. Prior to a mission with us you need to conduct the MSB induction training.
A registration on our roster is initialy for three years. After this period your registration will be evaluated and you may be offered a new 3 year registration.
Deployed as a Architect, the mission lenght is normally 3-6 months, with a few weeks preparation prior to the mission. The MSB highly values the well-being of our staff and whilst on mission you will have access to health and safety support from the MSB 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Architects are often used in MSB's own construction projects/service packages for permanent constructions to our UN partners. However, secondments as architects or contracting architects/engineers can also occur. As an Architect employed by MSB, you will produce construction documents and drawings that guide the construction process. Work for sustainable design and energy efficiency and develop design ideas in collaboration with project managers, technical managers, engineers and partner organizations' contact points, as well as apply constructional fundamentals and principles in crisis situations with logistical, material and safety constraints.

Duties
As a Architect you are expected to:
•From the Project Brief, draft early-stage design documents and visualizations communicating the construction concept including sketches, diagrams and 3D renderings and preliminary plans.
•Develop design ideas in collaboration with project managers, technical managers, engineers and partner organizations focal points.
•Produce architectural drawings in Auto Cad, in all scales, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and details that define the design, layout, and spatial relationships of the building.
•From given instructions or specifications from the Structural Engineer produce constructional drawings of loadbearing elements, foundation details, joinery and reinforcement specifications.
•Produce civil drawings including site plans, grading, drainage, and infrastructure elements.
•Produce Specification documents and descriptions of materials, workmanship, and construction methods.
•Modify Shop drawings produced by suppliers to detail specific components like steel structures, millwork, or prefabricated elements.
•Produce schedules and lists of doors, windows, finishes, and materials used throughout the project.
•Assist the Construction Engineer in Producing Bill of Quantity (BoQ).
•Applying sustainable construction aspects such as adaption of thermal qualities, energy efficiency, reducing solar heat loads, light, structural integrity, LCA, moisture control, ventilation and permeability, fire safety, sustainable material selection, water efficiency, safe water distribution, waste water treatment and waste management.

A minimum of four years’ experience within relevant area of expertise: Design, construction or construction management.
Demonstrated experience in producing architectural drawings in AutoCAD, at all scales, including plans, elevations, sections and details that define the building design, layout and spatial relationships of the building.
Demonstrated experience in producing civil drawings including site plans, grading, drainage and infrastructure elements.
Demonstrated experience in producing structural drawings of load-bearing elements, foundation details, joinery and reinforcement specifications from given instructions or specifications from the Structural Engineer.
Experience in the design programs Autodesk or BIM is an asset.
Experience in Fidic is an asset.
Experience in Project management is an asset.
Experience in international work in developing countries in the relevant field is an asset.

Education
A minimum of a Bachelor´s degree in Architecture and design. Other forms of training coupled with working experience in the field may be used in lieu of a formal Bachelor's degree.
Languages
Fluency in English is essential, both spoken and written.

We are looking for persons with a strong commitment towards humanitarian relief and disaster operations. It is of utmost priority that you understand, respect and act in the spirit of the mandate and core values of the MSB.
Before registration on MSB's roster, you need to fill in a self-assessed health declaration. If you are recruited for an international mission, a medical examination must be carried out and the results must be approved by the MSB prior to employment. Certain diseases and conditions can preclude international deployment.
