Duration: Appointment will be made for a duration of 3 years which may be extended for a maximum of 1 term.

Job Summary: GBA is seeking a meticulous and analytical professional to join its Secretariat as a Research Analyst. The incumbent will support and undertake processes aimed at streamlining research on biofuels and related sectors by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data while ensuring methodological soundness, rigour, validation, and timely dissemination to the intended users. The role requires a strong foundation in research methodologies, data analysis, and the ability to present findings to inform strategic decisions and policy development.

About us and our mission: GBA is a Multi-Stakeholder Alliance of Governments, International Organizations and Industry focused on advancing global biofuels adoption and aims to position biofuels as a key solution to the global energy transition.

The GBA aims to enhance the development and deployment of sustainable biofuels by increasing awareness, supporting policy development and skill advancement, promoting best practices, fostering international trade, serving as a pivotal source of information and collaborating with various regional and international organizations to effectively achieve its objectives and endorsing standards and regulations among other measures.

Key Responsibilities of the post:

As a Research Analyst, you will be expected to:

·       Conduct in-depth research on global biofuels markets, production trends, emerging technologies, and feedstock availability, identifying opportunities and challenges for sector growth.

·       Evaluate national and international biofuels policies, incentives, and sustainability frameworks, assessing their impact on industry development and trade.

·       Gather, clean, and analyze large datasets related to biofuels production, consumption, pricing, carbon emissions, and investment patterns to generate actionable insights. Utilize data visualization tools to present findings effectively for internal and external stakeholders.

·       Develop economic models, scenario analyses, and policy simulations to assess the feasibility and competitiveness of different biofuels pathways.

·       Engage with academic institutions, think tanks, policymakers, and industry experts to collect and validate data.

·       Contribute to policy briefs, whitepapers, and reports on emerging biofuel technologies and regulatory frameworks.

·       Support GBA’s engagement with stakeholders including governments, industry players, research institutions, to promote knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

·       Support planning and execution of workshops, seminars, and global events related to biofuels research and policy.

·       Monitor advancements in biofuels technology, sustainability practices, and alternative fuel developments to provide strategic recommendations.

·       Assist in project documentation, budget planning, and reporting for research initiatives, ensuring effective resource allocation.

·       Identify emerging market opportunities, assess trade flows, and evaluate investment opportunities to support international cooperation initiatives.

·       Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Research and Knowledge Management, GBA, or designated officer.

Essential Competencies:

·       Strong ability to analyze complex data sets and extract meaningful insights.

·       Experience in employing various research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative with a meticulous approach to data accuracy and validation.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and concisely.

·       Experience in drafting and finalizing high quality materials for internal and external partners including proposals and work plans, concept notes, and technical reports is an asset.

·       Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.

·       Experience of high-quality research involving multiple research methods, databases, tools, and techniques, qualitative and quantitative approaches is required.

Qualifications:

·       Education: Bachelors/Masters in disciplines of biofuels, bioenergy, energy, environmental sciences, applied sciences, engineering, or a related field.

·       Experience: Minimum 4 year (for Masters) or Minimum 6 years (for Bachelors) of research and data analysis experience or other relevant work experience at national/international level within the energy, biofuels, bioenergy, or related sectors.

Language Proficiency and IT Skills:

·       Excellent command of both written and spoken English is required.

·       Knowledge of any other languages would be advantageous.

·       Satisfactory skills in Outlook, MS Office products, and various ERP systems is highly desirable.
