Mission and objectives
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The UNEP Reginal Office for West Asia is located in Beirut, Lebanon.
Context
This UNV assignment is part of the UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Regional Office for West Asia projects supporting Qatar in preparing its Initial Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1).
Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator for Climate Action or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Programme Associate will:
• Ensure timely and accurate data collection for National Inventory Report (NIR) and National Determined Contributions (NDC) chapters of the BTR
• Collect information on national circumstances and institutional arrangements related to the GHG inventory to be submitted as part of the BTR1.
• Collect information on national circumstances and institutional arrangements related to NDC tracking.
• Document and archive activity data, emission factors, conversion factors and all the steps used in the GHG inventory processes.
• Prepare a summary report on good practices and lessons learned from BTR process
• Conduct targeted research to support in the preparation and delivery of workshops and capacity-building activities. Prepare PowerPoint presentation, concept notes and detailed agenda (Arabic and English)
• Prepare accurate and timely minutes of meetings and workshops, ensuring clear documentation of key decisions and action items.
