The successful applicant will be part of the Support and Quality Assurance Group (SQA) within the MSE Department at the Paranal site of the La Silla Paranal Observatory. The MSE Department, with a workforce of 85 engineers and technicians, provides maintenance and technical support to the four 8m VLT telescopes, to the VLT Interferometer with its auxiliary telescopes, the VST and VISTA survey telescopes and to all instruments available for scientific observations. The Support and Quality Assurance Group is comprised of 6 engineers and is responsible for various back-office type supporting functions to the technical and scientific operations at large, in particular: planning technical activities including the contracted maintenance services, asset management in general through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and support to users, maintenance and reliability management, quality management and assurance on the site, outsourced contract management like the central (technical) warehouse (and the supply chain associated), support for documenting technical processes, etc. As the Paranal Observatory prepares for future simultaneous operations of the VLT and ELT, the SQA group is supporting ESO's Integrated Operations Programme (IOP) in developing and implementing a process model designed to deliver high-performance science data through sustainable operational processes. The position of Enterprise Asset Management specialist will provide significant support for the Technical Maintenance & Observatory Management Processes, will be an internal specialist for the EAM implementation and will also work as an Application Specialist, being a key player for further optimization and evolution of EAM and business applications. This includes monitoring and assessing regular system updates for potential adoption, organizing and coordinating regression testing, and working closely with users to identify and implement improvements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will have the following main duties:
- Serve as the lead technical resource for both brownfield and greenfield updates to ESO's existing IBM MAXIMO environment, ensuring successful implementation, integration, and optimization.
- Provide day-to-day technical support for EAM applications, ensuring smooth operation and effective issue resolution.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement by proactively enhancing EAM processes, particularly in asset management and predictive maintenance.
- Lead or support initiatives to streamline workflows and optimize asset lifecycle management.
- Contribute to international project teams working on EAM rollouts across ESO.
- Manage integrations and maintain communication between EAM, ERP, and other enterprise systems.
- Prepare and maintain thorough EAM documentation in line with best practices and internal standards.
- Analyze data and generate reports to support decision-making on asset lifecycles and maintenance strategies.
- Deliver training and ongoing user support while fostering strong partnerships with business units and remote teams

Experience:
Three - five years of hands-on experience with EAM systems in maintenance, asset management, or manufacturing environments.
Key Competences:
The ideal candidate has several of the following competences (technical and soft):
- Solid experience with EAM and ideally with IBM MAXIMO or an alternative Tier One EAM System.
- Good understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance, work order management, and asset tracking.
- Affinity for IT and experience with business application management.
- Experience with SQL, data analysis, dashboards and/or reporting tools.
- Excellent communication skills, with strong stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Proactive, collaborative, and adaptable personality with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with a strong sense of team spirit necessary to work in an international team environment.
- Ability to work both independently and under the leadership of different project managers, simultaneously for various projects, teams and priorities. Taking the initiative and effectively managing to solve project issues.
- Interpersonal and team working skills.
- Willingness to question the status quo and learn new tools and methodologies
- Multidisciplinary thinking-acting (incorporate different groups or skills available in other groups when needed)
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and
Desirable and considered as an asset would be:
- Experience in implementing integration to BIM
- Experience in implementing integration to ERP
- Knowledge of complex engineering systems related to scientific fields.
- Specialised Training and Certifications in EAM
- Understanding and experience with a process-based approach to organizational operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering, computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Language Skills:
ESO is an international organization where the official language is English. The position requires excellent oral, reading and written communication skills in English. Spoken Spanish is highly desirable for communication in the day-to day business.
Duty Station:
The working schedule will be 5 days on duty and 2 days off duty (5x2) at Vitacura office Santiago with the option of mobile working within our correspondent framework and with regular visits to the Observatory premises. The selected candidate will spend up to 30% of the time at Paranal Observatory located 120 km south of the city of Antofagasta, Chile
