Mission and objectives

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is committed to helping Uzbekistan build a modern, prosperous, democratic society, based on responsive government systems, people prepared for future challenges and opportunities, and an inclusive green economy.

UNDP first became active in Uzbekistan in 1993, and has over subsequent decades implemented hundreds of projects alongside the national government, business, civil society and academic. We are proud to be both Uzbekistan’s primary development partner and a leading member of the UN Family.

Through the continued trust of the Government of Uzbekistan, close collaboration with our fellow UN agencies and the support of national and international donors, UNDP has helped build Uzbekistan’s market economy, modernize its government, and improve the lives of its most vulnerable citizens. In addition, UNDP has helped Uzbekistan tackle some of the most prominent ecological and environmental challenges it has faced over past years.
The directions of UNDP’s work in Uzbekistan reflect the current UN Country Programme Document (CPD) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2021-2025. They also align with the national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the 2030 Agenda, and Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy for 2017-2021. Throughout 2020 UNDP helped address the national health and socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and is continuing to actively assist in Uzbekistan’s inclusive, green recovery.

Context

The Tech Volunteers for Resilience (Tech4R) programme, jointly led by the United Nations Development Programme’s Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector in Development (UNDP ICPSD) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, mobilizes skilled digital volunteers to co-create open-source tools that strengthen resilience, inclusion, and sustainable development.
In collaboration with UNDP Uzbekistan under the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), Tech4R is supporting the Chip-Mahalla 2025 initiative by developing a Digital Platform for Animal Identification and Management in Uzbekistan.
The project aims to create an open-source platform that enables the registration, identification, and management of domestic and shelter animals through integrated digital systems. The tool will improve coordination among veterinary institutions, shelters, and municipalities while promoting transparent, humane, and data-driven animal welfare management.
The UI/UX & Visualization Volunteers will focus on designing a simple, accessible, and user-friendly interface for the digital platform. They will also create visualization elements that allow users to easily interpret data, such as animal registration trends, vaccination status, and other key indicators. Their contribution will ensure that the platform is intuitive, inclusive, and visually engaging for all user groups.

Task description

The Volunteer, together with the team will:
• Design user-friendly, accessible layouts for the digital platform’s interface.
• Create clear navigation flows and intuitive user experiences for different user roles (e.g., veterinarians, shelter staff, administrators).
• Develop visual mockups and prototypes for testing and feedback.
• Support the creation of dashboards and visual data displays for reporting purposes.
• Ensure the design meets universal accessibility and usability standards.
• Collaborate closely with the software development and database teams to ensure alignment between visual design and functionality.
• Prepare basic design documentation for future replication or scaling.
