Job Description

NATURE OF THE CONSULTANCY: To conduct capacity-building training for 12 psychologists and 12 Psychosocial Mobile Teams (PMTs) on a community-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) approach. The training will integrate the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework and include the development of intervention protocols to guide the teams in delivering CBT-based support to individuals in need.

Responsibilities

The consultant will apply the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework to deliver trauma-informed support to conflict-affected populations by undertaking the following key tasks:

  • Conduct a pre-training needs assessment with psychologists and PMTs to identify capacity gaps and tailor the training content accordingly.
  • Develop a comprehensive implementation plan detailing objectives, protocols, timelines, deliverables, and operational guidelines.
  • Design structured training modules supported by lesson plans, facilitation guides, workshop presentations, case studies, role-play exercises, and accessible training materials—translated into Hausa to ensure inclusivity.
  • Submit all training materials and intervention protocols to the IOM MHPSS/Protection team for technical review and validation.
  • Facilitate a five-day capacity-building workshop for psychologists and PMTs in Jos, Plateau State.
  • Conduct pre- and post-training evaluations, analyze the data, and compile findings into a formal report.
  • Provide one to two post-training mentoring sessions to support the practical application of CBT techniques by field teams. 
  • Deliver a final comprehensive report summarizing all activities, outcomes, and actionable recommendations

 

TANGIBLE AND MEASURABLE OUTPUT OF THE WORK ASSIGNMENT: 

Develop basic training manual, prepare materials, and facilitate a five-day training for 12 Psychologists and 12 Psychosocial Mobile Teams on Community-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Approaches, integrating cognitive behaviour therapy framework and support the teams in gaining practical skills to put what they have learnt into practice.

 

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Timely execution of assigned tasks and responsibilities
  • 80% performance satisfaction
  • 80% satisfaction as reported by the training participants
  • Quality of training modules, lesson plans, presentation, case scenarios, and role plays as assessed by the Protection/MHPSS Unit. 
  • Percentage of the training participants demonstrated increased knowledge and change in their perception/understanding of therapeutic and community-based interventions.

 

DURATION OF THE CONTRACT AND PAYMENT

The duration of the consultancy shall be one month from 23 November to 22 December 2025, with a consultancy fee of $2,101.47 per month or $70.05 per day, all-inclusive fee. The consultancy fees will be paid in the local currency based on the prevailing exchange rate.

  • The payment will be delivered in two installments:
    • 50% after completion of the assigned tasks.
    • 50% after submission and validation of report.

 

THE CONSULTANT WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

IOM WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Costs for local travel where applicable. This will include flight/road travel costs, or administrative-related costs, terminal transfers, and accommodation only.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Advanced University degree in any of these fields: Psychology (Applied. Clinical or Developmental Psychology), Counseling, Social Work, Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy.

Certification:

  • Completion of a recognized CBT certification programme such as : Primary Certificate in CBT, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Rational Behavior Therapy, Rational Living Therapy, Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist (CCBT) and Diplomate in CBT (DCBT).

Professional Experience:

Supervised clinical experience in CBT practice and Letters of recommendation from mental health professionals familiar with your CBT skills

Affiliation:

Certification from a recognized Nigerian counseling body, such as:

  • Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists (NACP)
  • Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA)
  • Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON)
  • Completion of supervised practice and passing relevant exams
