Our team and mission
ESA’s sites and common technical infrastructure are one of the key elements upon which the entire European space programme can be built and grown, contributing to European industry’s worldwide competitiveness and to the success of ESA missions.
Through its Estates and Facilities Management Department, ESA maintains, improves and develops its site infrastructure, so that it is fit-for-purpose for a modern working environment and serves the needs and future evolution of the Agency, its partners and Member States.
Within the ESRIN the Real Estate and Facilities Management activities are divided into 3 main sections:
- Hard Services

managing all the site technical infrastructure.

managing all small and major projects on site.

organising and managing the accommodation in ESRIN.

responsible for the Sustainability, Energy, Business Continuity and Mobility Management of ESRIN.

- Soft Service

managing the Cleaning and Gardening services in ESRIN.

managing the ESRIN Site Help Desk.

managing the ESRIN canteen.

managing the Conference Bureau.

- Security
- management of ESRIN Physical Security.
The ESRIN site is composed of 18 buildings, including technical plant rooms, data centers (and HPC), meeting and conferences rooms, sport facility, laboratories and office spaces. The management of these spaces are all under the responsibility of the ESRIN REFM team.

Field(s) of activity for the internship
Topic of the internship: Real Estates and Facillity Management – Hard Services
You will report directly to the Head of the ESRIN Hard Services.
Under the supervision of the Head of Hard Services the intern will assist with the monitoring of the works, monitoring the construction companies with their progress and helping ensure that the quality standards of the works meet ESA’s specifications while dealing with any issues that may arise during the works.
In addition, you will support the Hard Service Manager and the Maintenance Contract Service Manager with the assessment of the plant infrastructure by assessing the condition and efficiency of all mechanical and electrical installations on site.
Moreover, you will be more than welcome to propose new ideas that could be implemented in ESRIN to improve the sustainability and efficiency of the site and to ensure that the sustainability goals are met, while the best practices are maintained. Last but not least, you will assist with ensuring that all projects and processes being applied in ESRIN are in line with applicable regulations and legislations, as well as analysing the REFM industry to assess new installations and policies that could be implemented in ESRIN.

Education
You must be a university student, preferably studying at master’s level. In addition, you must be able to prove that you will be enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.
Additional requirements
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
