Field(s) of activity for the internship

Topic of the internship: Research Evaluation and Science Communication

You will support the Exploration Science Office in enhancing internal processes related to the evaluation of scientific proposals and the integration of science communication within human spaceflight research activities.

Evaluation Process Optimisation:

You will contribute to the review and modernisation of current procedures used to assess research proposals submitted to announcements of opportunity. This will involve benchmarking evaluation practices used by major national and international funding bodies, identifying key differences and best practices, and proposing improvements to strengthen transparency, consistency, and scientific rigor. You will assist in drafting updated workflows and assessment criteria to support the selection of high-quality, impactful research.

Science Communication and Impact Assessment:

You will also support the integration of science communication considerations into the research proposal process. This includes proposing guidelines for applicants to describe their planned communication activities and anticipated impact, as well as helping define corresponding evaluation criteria. In addition, you will explore existing frameworks for measuring communication outcomes and impact, and assess how these could be adapted for implementation in space research contexts.
This internship offers insight into science management within human space exploration, with practical experience in research evaluation methodologies and public engagement strategy.
