Our team and mission

The CSC Security Office ensures the protection of ESA’s Connectivity and Secure Communications information/programmes by implementing and overseeing security governance, risk management, security engineering, and compliance with ESA Security Directives up to ESA Secret level. The Office provides guidance and coordination on all aspects of physical, information, and cyber security, and supports programme accreditation activities. It also promotes a culture of security awareness within the Directorate and ensures that all aspects of security are embedded throughout the lifecycle of CSC projects and missions.

Topic of the internship: Secure Space Telecommunication Systems

 

Space-based telecommunication plays a crucial role in modern society, enabling global connectivity, secure communications, and supporting various applications such as satellite broadcasting, broadband internet, and mobile networks.

This internship will cover a range of topics related to Secure Space-based Telecommunication, including:

 

  • space system engineering principles;
  • secure space-based communication systems including definitions of security, through its pillars, and:
    • how to achieve space telecommunications with high availability;
    • how to achieve confidentiality and integrity (basic principles of COMSEC and CRYPTOSEC);
    • how space communication systems can help in distributing position, navigation and timing information.

Education

You must be a university student, preferably studying at master’s level. In addition, you must be able to prove that you will be enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
