Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) and the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) are undertaking a web migration process to align with UN Secretariat standards, transition to Drupal 10, and strengthen the visibility, accessibility, and coherence of departmental and mission content. This process requires specialized support to ensure timely, accurate, and technically sound migration and management of content, while also improving consistency across departmental and mission websites. The Individual Contractor will provide direct support to the migration and management of DPO and DPPA’s web presence, with a focus on ensuring consistency, accuracy, and visibility of content. Under the supervision of the Web Editor, the Consultant will: Support the migration of existing web content from legacy platforms to Drupal 10, including manual migration of text, images, and files where automated transfer is not possible. Coordinate with focal points across DPO/DPPA to gather, validate, and prioritize content for migration. Liaise with the technical team and OICT to resolve technical issues, ensure alignment with migration timelines, and coordinate on back-end requirements. Ensure compliance with UN standards for accessibility, design, functionality, and multilingual presentation. Assist in the reorganization of content architecture to improve navigation, usability, and discoverability of information. Provide technical quality assurance, including proofreading, testing for functionality, link validation, metadata consistency, and mobile responsiveness. Troubleshoot migration issues, including formatting errors, embedded media, and broken links, and provide solutions to ensure integrity of migrated content. Adapt, format, and publish multimedia content (photos, videos, infographics) for integration into web pages, ensuring optimized load times and display quality. Support the migration of mission websites, providing technical guidance to ensure alignment with Drupal 10 standards and harmonization with departmental sites. Provide training and practical guidance for staff across DPO, DPPA, and missions to strengthen capacity in web content management and sustainability. Ensure consistency in look, feel, and structure between DPO and DPPA websites, supporting a unified departmental web presence. Document migration steps and workflows, and training documents providing recommendations to improve future processes and content management efficiency. Support outreach to DPO and DPPA sections, providing guidance and follow-up to ensure content is updated in line with new Drupal 10 templates, editorial standards, and design approaches.
