The Global Crop Diversity Trust is seeking an outstanding candidate for the position of:

Genebank Information System Officer 

The Crop Trust develops and maintains databases and software that support the work of the world’s crop genebanks. This includes the GRIN-Global Community Edition (GGCE), a community-driven software for genebank collection management.

As a member of the Programs Team, and working closely with other relevant staff, the Genebank Information System Officer will support genebanks in the implementation and use of GGCE. The role also involves contributing to the development of GGCE to meet the needs of genebank technicians, curators, and other users. The position reports to the Head of Genebank Information Systems. 

The Genebank Information System Officer will:

  • Provide guidance and support to genebanks in adopting the GGCE platform, including installation, configuration, backup, disaster recovery, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist genebanks with data migration, cleaning, validation, and uploading.
  • Deliver training sessions in the use of GGCE, both virtually and in person.
  • Represent GGCE at workshops, meetings, and other relevant events.
  • Act as a liaison between users and the software development team in order to improve GGCE.
  • Contribute to release notes, user guides, technical documentation, and newsletters to keep stakeholders informed of updates and developments.
  • Support the preparation of annual reports, donor reports, and other institutional reporting requirements.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field such as natural sciences or statistics.
  • Minimum of six years of hands-on experience in informatics.
  • Proven ability to write and communicate technical content clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data cleaning, management, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a frequent basis.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and French; proficiency in additional languages, especially Spanish is a plus.
  • Familiarity with genetic resource conservation and use is an asset.
  • Practical experience with GRIN-Global or GGCE in a genebank setting is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse partners across cultural backgrounds.

 

Terms and Conditions: The Trust offers an attractive remuneration package including a competitive salary, non-contributory retirement savings plan, medical insurance and leave provisions. This is a General Service position classified as Level 3, with the highest Level in the General Service Grade Levels being Level 3. The salary range for this level starts at Euro 40,000. Staff of the Global Crop Diversity Trust (including German nationals) are exempt from host country income tax. All benefits are denominated and paid Euros. The position is based in Bonn, Germany. Relocation costs are not covered. The contract will commence as soon as possible and will be term-limited, ending on 31 March 2029. The contract is subject to a probationary period of one year.
