Job Description
IOM’s protection unit aims to promote and uphold migrants’ rights and support migrants, IDPs and other vulnerable communities to access and exercise their rights. The unit also supports Ministries and Government entities in their roles in promoting and fulfilling migrants’ and IDPs rights. IOM provides protection assistance both directly and in partnership with other stakeholders, through advocacy and communication, thematic guidance, training and capacity building, convening & dialogues, thematic research, and direct assistance. Specifically, direct assistance includes case management, and protection services as well as assisted voluntary return and reintegration for migrants in vulnerable situation as well as IDPs and other populations affected by the recent escalation of hostilities.
Under the overall supervision of Program Manager (Protection) and the direct supervision of Project Officer (Protection), this position will provide support to protection technical teams in the implementation of activities.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of protection activities, ensuring compliance with IOM internal processes for direct implementation and partnerships with local organizations. This includes supporting the drafting of partnerships agreements as well as submission and follow-up of purchase requests and other administrative tasks needed for implementation.
- Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific program topics, including achievements and validation of expenses reports against forecast.
- Provide administrative and logistical support for capacity building activities, workshops as well as in kind assistance to community-based initiatives.
- Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery and bringing them to the attention of the supervisor.
- Draft and manage routine correspondence, including emails, reports, meetings minutes, formal letters, graphics, statistical tables, presentations and other forms of documentation; follow up with the supervisor on pending actions and progress.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- School diploma with four years of relevant experience; or,
- Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Lebanese migration context, challenges faced by migrants, protection gaps and responses implemented by UN and NGOs, Community-based initiatives, and interventions.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under time constraints, accurate and detail oriented.
- Team player: ability to work effectively with different levels within and outside the organization and with colleagues from varied cultures and professional background.
