The Programme Associate is located in Aden and reports to the GBV Specialist / GBV Unit Team lead.

Job Purpose:

The Programme Associate supports the design, planning and management of UNFPA’s GBV country Programme by supporting and managing new and ongoing GBV projects by implementing partners providing logistical support, monitoring project implementation and following up on recommendations provided to the implementing partners to ensure successful and quality project implementation. The Programme Associate applies global standards and procedures and assists in the creation of substantive knowledge by compiling, synthesizing and analyzing information relevant to GBV programming, while at the same time ensuring integration with other UNFPA programming such as Reproductive Health, Gender, Population data and Youth.  S/he is instrumental in facilitating Programme/ project implementation using and developing appropriate mechanisms and systems and ensuring compliance with established UNFPA procedures.

The Programme Associate maintains collaborative relationships with all programme and project staff at the CO. In particular, working closely with the GBV officer, the associate supports the coordination of project implementation by the implementing partners and ensures collaborative relationships with the government actors and other UN agencies and facilitates timely and efficient delivery of project results.  In addition, the associate collaborates and works closely with other program units to ensure GBV integration and supports ongoing efforts towards the overall implementation of the country program strategy. 

Internal contacts include the Assistant Representative, the Programme Specialist, the Programme Analyst, the CO’s programme/ technical team, and the CO’s administrative management team.

You would be responsible for:

  • Participates in the identification and formulation of the country GBV programme by compiling and analyzing information in the subject areas of UNFPA assistance to the Government and implementing partners, drafts project documents and work plans and liaises with the M&E teams to prepare statistical data. 
  • Evaluates GBV project and programme activities, establishing and implementing mechanisms to systematically assess the achievement of results, conducting field visits, participating in review meetings and evaluation missions and preparing regular inputs to status and progress reports. Analyzes basic factors affecting the achievement of results, recommends corrective actions and follows up on recommendations.
  • In coordination with national counterparts and project personnel, guides routine implementation of assigned GBV projects, coordinating delivery of project inputs, ensuring participation of national counterparts in training activities and study tours.
  • Provides logistical support to GBV projects by coordinating review meetings and other project related workshops and events. Trains and guides project personnel and staff on national execution and programme policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to creation and sharing of knowledge by synthesizing and documenting findings and lessons learned, success stories and best practices, strategies and approaches related to GBV programming o, and drafting relevant materials for dissemination.
  • Supports GBV advocacy and resource mobilization strategy of the CO by compiling and synthesizing relevant background material for use in discussions and public events. Establishes and maintains a network of donor and public information contacts and provides assistance in organizing and conducting donor meetings and public information events.
  • Support activities related to CO humanitarian response to crisis.  

Qualifications and Experience: 

 Education and Experience:  

 High School degree with 7 years of relevant experience in program/or project management or working on GBV prevention and response. 

Knowledge: 

  • Previous experience with the UN is an advantage. 
  • Proficiency in current office software applications. 
  •  Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Field experience.
  • professional experience in the field of GBV-related activities, preferably in Programme/ project management;
  • Direct work with the survivors of GBV is an asset.

Languages: 

Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
