Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The intern will work on projects within the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), of the Geneva base Industry and Economy Division – www.ggkp.org . GGKP is co-hosted by UNEP in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). These organizations serve as the joint host of the GGKP Secretariat (www.greengrowthknowledge.org) on behalf of the GGKP Steering Committee (UNEP, GGGI, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the World Bank). The GGKP is a global network of over 90 international organisations, research institutes and non- governmental organisations focused on promoting a green economy transition by: ●identifying major knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice and addressing these gaps by promoting collaboration and coordinated research; and ●using world-class knowledge management and communication tools to provide practitioners, policymakers, and other experts with opportunities to access, share, and utilize green growth policy analysis, guidance, information, and data. The intern will be involved in implementing activities related to GGKP’s workstream on Industry and Value chains. This workstream focuses on supporting industry actors (SMEs, large companies and business associations) and related stakeholders (e.g. policy makers, international organisations, financial institutions, NGOs, etc.) to develop, access and apply green and circular economy related knowledge relevant to each actor’s role within a value chain. As part of this work, GGKP has developed focused networks to support experience and knowledge exchange, dedicated platforms and AI-powered systems for simplified knowledge collation and access, and customizable tools to accompany the application of knowledge into action. The mission of the Industry and Value Chain team is to play a leading role in connecting the many different value chain stakeholders and ensuring each stakeholder is empowered with the right knowledge for their role in the circular economy. This involves targeted global and regional outreach and engagement activities, and the use of AI-powered knowledge management systems and tools. The GGKP and its Industry and Value Chain workstream are supported through funding from the EU to support the enhancement of circular economy knowledge generation, management and sharing globally. To achieve this objective GGKP aims to ensure a clear alignment between those stakeholders that, 1) produce knowledge, 2) provide enabling policy environment and financial supports, and 3) those that are the end-users of the same. The internship is unpaid and full-time for a six-month period, ideally from December 2025 to May 2026. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of the Industry and Value Chains Lead. Under the overall supervision of the GGKP Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Industry and Value Chains Lead the intern will: • Support the operation and ongoing expansion of global and regional stakeholder networks for different groups of value chain stakeholders, in particular through the Green Forum (www.thegreenforum.org) • Support ongoing deployment and enhancement of online tools and solutions to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) easily access resource efficiency support and implement targeted actions (www.igosolution.org) . • Research circular economy projects and initiatives being delivered out by leading organizations to support an eventual digital mapping and analysis of global circular economy initiatives. •Support the outreach, promotion and agenda preparation for webinars and other events, as well as related logistical and technical assistance during their execution. •Assist in other tasks associated with the implementation of GGKP’s projects, as needed and directed by supervising staff member.
