(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;

(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

Title

Internship on Labour Law and International Labour Standards (ILS) of the Advancing Decent Work in Bangladesh (ADWIB) Project.

Departments

The ILO, as the leading UN agency for establishing Decent Work, aims to ensure that it serves the needs of working women and men by bringing together governments, employers, and workers to set labour standards, develop policies, and devise programmes. This internship supports the component focused on supporting interventions to ensure Bangladesh labour laws and rules are more gender responsive, inclusive, and aligned with ILS and effectively applied.  The work includes supporting constituents in enhancing awareness and knowledge on labour law amendments aligned with ILS and increasing capacity to engage with the ILO supervisory system. It will also work on broadening space of discussion on labour law and ILS with labour law practitioners and, academics.

Learning areas

As an intern in the Labour Law and ILS component, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas related to labour law reform and the application of international labour standards. The objective of this internship is to provide the incumbent with practical experience in implementing technical cooperation activities aimed at aligning national labour legislation with ILS and enhancing the capacity of tripartite constituents to engage in the ILO normative cycle. You would be gaining experience in working with specialists and senior national officer in  the area of labour law and ILS, and working with social partners (employers and workers) to promote international labour standards. Specific areas of exposure include technical legal analysis, capacity development for legal practitioners, supporting legislative dialogues, and assisting the government and social partners in preparing reports or observations to ILO supervisory bodies. Intern will also be involved in organizing workshops, training, dialogues and related administrative work. 

Required profile

Education

LL.B . The candidate should at least be enrolled in their final year of a graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme.. LL.M in Labour Law, Human Rights, or International Law is an added advantage.

Experience

Relevant work experience in legal research work, legal drafting, and report writing. Knowledge of IT would be an advantage. Experience supporting training or network development is beneficial

Languages

Working (both oral and written) knowledge of Bangla and English. Ability to write good quality reports is mandatory

Competencies

Adaptable to an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment, good communication skills, and be able to work in a team

Selection process:

Stipend:

 

As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.

 

Insurance:

 

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
