Who are we?

 The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. Programmers include protection, livelihood, food and NFI distribution, water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others. DRC Yemen has been providing relief and development services in Yemen since 2008. DRC has mainly focused on refugees and migrants displaced by conflict and natural disasters.

DRC, through its specialized business unit, Danish Demining Group (DDG) aims to recreate a safe environment where people can live without the threat of landmines, unexploded ordinances and small arms and light weapons”. These goals can be effectively advanced through cooperation and joint action with other organization as well as with integration of operations and programs with its sister organization, DRC.

 

About the Job:

Overall

The Community Center (CC) Facilitator will be responsible for facilitating recreational and psychosocial support activities for children, youth and adults within DRC’s Community Centers and in IDP sites in Al Turbah (Al Shamayateen and Mowasit) districts. The CC Facilitator will also support the creation of a schedule of activities for the centers, as well as maintain the spaces equipped and organized. The CC Facilitator will identify individuals in need of further assistance and will refer them to DRC staff for additional services.

Responsibilities: 

Community Center activities:

  • Facilitate recreational and psychosocial support activities at DRC community centers and in the mobile sites for children, youth and adults;
  • Assist in the set-up and organization of spaces and materials in the community center in preparation for activities, and ensure material is stored correctly after activities are completed;
  • Assist DRC PSS team to plan and maintain a schedule of activities at the community center in line with the existing PSS curriculum and activity bank;
  • Assist DRC staff in identifying needs for material and equipment to conduct activities;
  • Safely identify and mobilize community members to participate in activities at the community center;
  • Greet, welcome, orientate, and register through KOBO clients at the community center;
  • Raise awareness about the activities in the community center with the community including with community leaders and focal points;
  • Safely identify and refer members of the community who require additional assistance and services to DRC’s Case Management staff in accordance with defined referral pathways and Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Ensure inclusive participation to community center’s activities following an AGD approach;
  • Report to the Protection Assistant and Officer all issues, challenges and gaps related to implementation of PSS and recreational activities;
  • Support Protection Assistants and Officer.

 About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience :

  • Experience in facilitating recreational and psychosocial support activities;
  • Experience in leading activities for children, youth and adults;
  • Written and spoken Arabic;
  • Effective oral communication skills:
  • Must be willing to perform tasks as required by DRC and other partner agencies if relevant.Technical

Required qualifications:

Education:

  • University degree in social work, education, or closely related fields; proven field experience can be accepted in lieu.

Languages:

  • Arabic – Fluent

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until 31 December 2026, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work As soon as possible, and be willing and able to work in Taiz-Turbah.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (J  NON-Manager) and will be reporting to Protection Team Leader.
