These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ) or Country Offices (COs). They report to the Division/Country Director or the designate and are subject to overall normative and technical direction by the Chief Engineer, WFP Engineering in relation to all matters of engineering services and construction activities.
Job holders operate under the direct supervision of a more senior and experienced Engineer holding recognized accreditation as “Chartered Engineer” or “Professional Engineer”. They are involved in day–to-day practical engineering activities and analytical work. Subject to the overall guidance, job holder’s complete assignments and provide advice on engineering issues, applying the established norms, standards regulations and providing expertise in making determinations and recommendations across a range of daily activities.
Job Purpose:
To provide architectural and engineering expertise and contribute to the efficient design, delivery and quality outputs.
The Architect shall perform the following tasks:
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies.
- Develop architectural concepts, schematic designs, and detailed drawings.
- Prepare technical specifications and tender documents.
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations, and environmental standards.
- Knowledge of engineering contract formats, modalities and obligations. Knowledge in FIDIC forms of contracts is desirable.
- Monitor construction progress and provide technical supervision.
- Review and approve shop drawings and material submittals.
- Provide input on cost estimates and value engineering.
- Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates.
- Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:
- Has worked effectively under supervision on a large number of varied design and construction projects and taken responsibility for work elements which have been assigned.
- Has attained advanced academic qualifications relevant to architecture.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and other design software.
- Knowledge of local building codes and international standards.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
First University degree in Architecture or related Engineering discipline. Hold or be eligible for Accreditation to “Professional Engineer” or “Chartered Engineer” status or recognized equivalent by an appropriate national or international regulatory authority.
Language:
International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).
National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture with minimum 5 years of professional experience in architectural design and construction supervision.
- Hold or be eligible for Accreditation to “Professional Engineer” or “Chartered Engineer” status or recognized equivalent.
