About The Role
Humanitarian Policy Advisor MENA
Location: London (hybrid between home and Head Office, EC2Y 9AL)
Permanent Contract
35 hours per week (Mon – Fri)
Salary Range: £39,285 - £40,893 (plus London Weighting, £3,344, if applicable) per annum
Can you support the development and implementation of BRC’s international influencing strategies on key policy thematic and technical areas? We’re looking for a Humanitarian Policy Advisor who will strengthen BRC’s voice and influence on key thematic areas. This will be through evidence-based policy and influencing work. In this role you’ll work collaboratively with a wide range of programme and policy colleagues, influencing on regional and thematic policy priorities.
A Day in the life of our Humanitarian Policy Advisor
You’ll support the development and implementation of BRC’s humanitarian policy and diplomacy (HD) agenda in the MENA region. The main areas of thematic focus for the International Law and Policy team include:
- principled humanitarian action
- localisation
- resilience and climate change
- and migration and displacement
This role touches on a number of these areas as they relate to MENA. With an additional focus on HD in emergencies within the region. A particular function of this role is to deliver quality advice and diplomacy on complex humanitarian policy matters related to the MENA region., working closely with National Societies and other Movement actors.
The work you will do will be crucial to the work of the organisation, and therefore vital to the lives of those in crisis. Your skills directly contribute to supporting our humanitarian efforts. You'll make a real difference in the lives of those we aim to help.
This role might be for you if you are…
- Experienced in designing and delivering plans to drive forward policy recommendations. With excellent organisational, agility and project management skills.
- Adept in research experience, technical expertise and excellent analytical and influencing skills. Comfortable critically analysing humanitarian policy and practice.
- Naturally insightful: You can analyse and interpret information to communicate and persuade decision makers. You can negotiate, influence and network with decision makers and represent the organisation with external fora.
- Understanding of policy and decision-making processes and have experience of writing policy reports and briefings. With a strong understanding of the international humanitarian system and international, regional and national policy frameworks.
- Collaborative: You can work closely with colleagues in different departments across the organisation. You can build relationships with National Society partners in the region and the broader International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.
