Overview of position

UNODC is looking for a qualified Legal Expert to prepare & deliver a three day legal training for national authorities in Yemen. The Legal Expert will develop all training materials in Arabic & provide a final report summarizing the training outcomes.

Role objectives

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare a concept note & agenda for the training (in Arabic).

  • Create PPT presentations, case studies, exercises, questionnaires & pre / post tests in Arabic.

  • Deliver a three day legal training focused on key international legal frameworks & law enforcement topics.

  • Facilitate group work, discussions & practical exercises during the training.

  • Provide written input for a newsletter article (if needed).

  • Write a training report in English, summarizing the sessions, participant feedback & recommendations.

Expected deliverables include but are not limited to:

  • Concept note & agenda (Arabic).

  • PPT slides & materials (Arabic).

  • Case studies & exercises (Arabic).

  • Pre & post training questionnaires & tests (Arabic).

  • Conduct of the 3 day training.

  • Short newsletter input (on request).

  • Final training report (in English, using a standard format).

Project reporting
  • The Legal Expert will work under the supervision of the UNODC GMCP team.

  • The Legal Expert is responsible for creating all Arabic language training content, including presentations, exercises & assessment tools.

  • All training materials & the final report will be submitted to UNODC.

Key competencies
  • Degree in law or related field.

  • At least 7 years of legal experience.

  • Strong knowledge of international legal frameworks related to maritime or criminal law.

  • Experience delivering legal training in Arabic.

  • Able to write clearly in both Arabic & English.

  • Experience working with government institutions or international organizations is an advantage.

Team management

This role has no team management responsibility.

Further information
  • The work should be completed within 15 working days.

  • The training delivery itself will take 3 days.

  • The remaining time is for preparation of Arabic language training content & submission of the final report.
