OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The “Promoting Sustainable Tourism in Mongolia through UNESCO Cultural and Geo Heritage” project (2023–2027) is a three-year initiative implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia (Beijing) through its Ulaanbaatar Antenna Office, with generous support from Rio Tinto Mongolia (RTM). The project aims to strengthen Mongolia’s post-COVID recovery through sustainable tourism development based on its unique cultural and geo-heritage resources. As the project enters its final year (January–December 2026), the primary milestone is the formal establishment of Mongolia’s first aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark (aUGGp) or a designated Mongolian National Geopark. This phase focuses on creating an operational management framework, governance structure, and sustainable financial plan for long-term operation. The position of Project Coordinator – Geopark Management and Protected Areas is established to provide senior, technical, and operational leadership to ensure this milestone is achieved by July 2026 or before COP17 to be held in August 2026 in UB.
