Volunteer GIS (RMEL)
Would you like to support the Global EverGreening Alliance and help restore degraded lands, empower farming communities, and fight climate change through nature-based solutions.
The Organisation
Global EverGreening Alliance (GEA) is a membership-based organisation that develops long-term solutions to restore degrated lands and improve livelihoods on a globally significant scale. We bring together some of the world's most capable development and environmental NGOs, research, and scientific organisations to support and facilitate massive-scale environmental restoration and sustainable agricultural projects. Together we build on our shared vision of resilient landscapes and agricultural systems, a safe climate and better livelihoods for rural communities. We are currently implementing Africa's largest ever community-led land restoration project: Restore Africa.
The Opportunity
We are looking for volunteers who would like to help with the cleaning, processing, and analysis of GIS imagery of smallholder farms in Uganda, Kenya and Malawi. Volunteers can assist remotely or from our Burwood East office (depending on days).
We will provide clear guidance and access to GIS resources such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and QGIS . You will work with a friendly and innovative team and be part of the world's largest community-based landscape restoration program. You will learn new skills and gain an understanding and insight into how land scape restoration and agroforestry can help mitigate climate change and improve the livelihoods of small farmers.
What we expect from you:
- interest in and awareness around climate change and sustainable development
- Sound understanding and practical experience with GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro or QGIS
- fast and innovate thinker and problem solver
- willing to share and work with others
How to Apply
Please provide your resume and a cover letter clearly detailing your interest and suitability for this opportunity (including your familiarity with GIS systems). Submissions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, so please submit as soon as possible. Please note, we will only contact those who are shortlisted.
If you have any questions, please contact hr@evergreening.org using the subject line: Volunteer - RMEL Support.
