Senior National Society Development (NSD) Adviser 
Location: UK Flexible role
Hours: 35 per week
Fixed Term Contract until December 2027
Salary Range: £50,852 - £53,168 per annum (plus inner London weighting allowance, £3,344, if applicable)

The British Red Cross are looking for a Senior National Society Development (NSD) Adviser to join us. The Senior NSD Adviser drives BRC’s core commitment to supporting National Society Development. This is central to our approach to equitable partnerships and localisation. You’ll build understanding and engagement across the organisation, strengthening NSD skills across the International Directorate.

A day in the life of a Senior National Society Development Adviser will involve:

  • Leading and delivering our global NSD strategy, ensuring alignment with National Society partner priorities and Movement-wide policy frameworks.
  • Providing leadership, expert guidance, coaching, and advisory support to BRC country teams.
  • Overseeing cross-functional collaboration with investment leads, technical advisers, and country teams. Ensuring synergy between programmatic and NSD support. Building relationships with various Movement stakeholders to ensure BRC’s approach is consistent and informed by current approaches.
  • Identifying, disseminating, and promoting the application of learning related to NSD in general and to BRC’s NSD support.
  • Coordinating peer-to-peer learning and exchange initiatives across regions.
  • Representing the BRC in key Movement forums and external platforms. Advocating for and influencing NSD policy and practice to wider stakeholders and the broader humanitarian sector.
  • Enhancing our NSD systems, processes, and guidelines. Ensuring they are fit for purpose and aligned with strategic goals.

To be a successful Senior National Society Development Adviser, you’ll need:

  • Knowledge of the International Federation of the Red Cross NDS related policies, tools and guidance.
  • Significant experience in an international, cross cultural advisory role.
  • Change management experience in large, complex organisations.
  • Proven analytical skills and the ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to upskill and advise our regional NSD Advisors and country teams with strategic and technical knowledge through peer learning, mentoring and coaching.
  • Confident, clear, and persuasive written and verbal communication skills. Ability to negotiate and to represent the organisation in multiple forums.
  • IT literacy, including proficiency with fundraising databases and MS 365.
