Result of Service

The ultimate result of service is the provision of timely, high-quality radiological and preventive healthcare services to UN personnel, their dependents, and delegates. This includes ensuring prompt and accurate diagnostic imaging, supporting effective clinical decision-making, and maintaining the general wellbeing of clients through both curative and preventive interventions. The individual contractor will contribute to workplace safety, collaborate with stakeholders such as WHO and the Ministry of Health for health hazard monitoring, and help minimize morbidity and mortality by delivering competent, client-focused care in alignment with organizational standards and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Health Care Center has the responsibility to provide both core and non-core services to all UN staff and their eligible dependents based in Ethiopia and delegates. The core services are provided by the regular staff, that include physicians and a few supportive para-medical staff. The non-core services also known as curative services are provided both by regular physicians and consultants who are recruited in different fields of medicine. The radiology unit of the clinic is required to provide both types of services within the mandate of what is permissible in an outpatient setup. The present ToR is intended to guide the individual contractors in the dispensation of their duties at UNHCC to ensure clients’ satisfaction and respect the organization’s rules and regulations from the health standpoint of view . RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Senior Radiology Technician, overall guidance of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and any designated Officer, the individual contractor will perform the following duties: • Reviews Requests for X-Rays, Mammography, Ultrasound and Radiological Consultation of Images produced elsewhere. • Prepares and orient clients for their examination by explaining the nature of the examination as briefly as possible. • Performs X-Ray examination as per the request based on local and international standards • Orients clients on the next steps and give after care following all radiological examinations • Processes images to acceptable diagnostic quality • Communicates with consultant radiologists for proper diagnostic reporting • Communicates with the requesting physicians as necessary • Assists the consultant radiologist in radiological procedures by availing the space comfortably, co-working on the equipment, identifying entering/retrieving client data and archiving reports properly. • Maintaining hygiene and safety of the radiology unit • Assisting and technically supporting other specialists whenever they perform radiological examinations as a quick reference during emergencies • Keeps electronic and hard copy record of images and reports in a confidential manner • Communicates results on hard and/or soft copies to clients based on their demand • Performs X-Ray examinations if called on emergency • Participates in campaigns involving health care center staff • Inspecting all available equipment regularly for their good performance • Ensures that the unit is safe for staff, colleagues, clients, their dependents and visitors against radiation exposure • Carry out with empathy and care patients within the assigned period to the Specialist. • In the event of mass casualty, the consultants might be called up to assist the UNHCC regular team in conducting imaging to the victims before moving them to different hospitals in the city. • Performs other related duties as necessary

Qualifications/special skills

First Degree in Radiography/Radiologic Technology is required. A minimum of 5 years of work experience in the field of Radiography is required. For a Diploma in Radiography, a minimum of 10 years practical work experience is required in Radiography.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the job advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
