Duties and Responsibilities
The Nurse is expected to uphold the highest standards of medical ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism, ensuring respect and compassion for all patients and colleagues. The Nurse will report directly to the Head Nurse of the UN Health Care Center. He/She may also collaborate with other clinical leads and administrative staff as required to perform the following duties and responsibilities: • Respond promptly to emergency calls during UNHCC off-duty hours, ensuring immediate assessment and initiation of appropriate care. • Organize and coordinate ambulance transport and referrals to designated healthcare facilities in the city, maintaining clear communication with external providers. • Attend to medical emergencies occurring on the UN compound, providing first-line treatment and stabilizing patients until further medical support is available. • Provide medical coverage for conferences, meetings, and official events as assigned, ensuring preparedness for any health-related incidents. • Serve as a replacement for regular nursing staff when required, supporting continuity of care and maintaining high standards of clinical practice. • Document all interventions, referrals, and incident details accurately and in a timely manner. • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the EOC.
Qualifications/special skills
• BA in Nursing from a recognized University and national registration. • Valid Certification in Basic and Advanced Life Support or equivalent emergency training is mandatory • Advanced University degree in Emergency medicine is an advantage • Minimum five years of relevant emergency nursing experience. • Work experience in an international organization is an advantage
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this role, fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Additional Information
The working hours of the nurse will be during off-duty hours based on shift working arrangement of the Clinic.
